Andrea Herrmann Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by A Natural State Funeral Service & Crematory on Feb. 11, 2026.
Dr. Andrea Herrmann, 83, of Little Rock, Arkansas passed away on January 16, 2026 at Woodland Heights Senior Living Center in Little Rock. Andy was born on July 28, 1942.

Andy was preceded in death by her parents, Catherine D. Watson and Robert Watson and husband, John Herrmann. She is survived by two sisters, Caddie Reaves and Alix Hartt (Dick), three nieces, one nephew and 7 great nieces and nephews.

Andy was a fierce believer in education and during her journey of 83 years she touched the lives of hundreds of students. Her career began as a high school teacher in Syracuse, New York in 1959 and then taught French at Allen High School in Allentown, Pennsylvania. She earned a Ph.D. in Education at Columbia University and later joined the University of Arkansas – Little Rock in the Rhetoric and Writing Department. She served as the graduate coordinator, taught both undergraduate and graduate courses and developed the first computer course in writing. She also taught a writing course for women in prison. In addition to teaching, Andy was an avid writer and researcher. One of her research writing projects was in Chloride, Arizona, a charming, former mining town, where she spent a year and collected stories for her book about "Life in Chloride."

Always ready for an adventure, Andy traveled the world. Her passion for travel began in Morocco as a Peace Corps worker in 1963, and over the years she lived in other distant places such as, France, Iran, Greece, Switzerland and Germany.

Among Andy's many milestones, she was a strong advocate of women's rights. And she gave freely of her time, talents and donations to support organizations, such as Single Parent Scholarships, animal shelters, Doctors Without Borders, Paws in Prison and Americares.

Andy inspired others with her boundless energy, intelligence, honesty and sense of humor. She was driven by an endless thirst for knowledge and was widely known as a devoted teacher.

As a devoted friend, Andy often said, "I want to be as good to my friends as they have been to me." She will be greatly missed and forever remembered.

A family-hosted Memorial Service will be held Saturday, Feb. 14 at 3 p.m. at Cheryl & Wayne Chapman's home – 1520 White Road, Little Rock, AR 72211. Friends are invited to bring their favorite story about Andy to share.

If you wish, in honor of Andy, we encourage you to donate to the Humane Society of Pulaski County or the Arkansas Single Parent Scholarship.
