Bob Kirkwood, beloved husband, father, papa, and friend, passed away peacefully at home on September 16, 2025, surrounded by his loving family, after a courageous battle with Parkinson's disease and Lewy body dementia. He was 70 years old.

Born and raised in Oregon, Bob carried with him a love of the outdoors, hard work, and a strong sense of family. His work took him across the United States, where he built not only a career but also lasting friendships along the way. It was in Hillman, Michigan, that he met the love of his life, Sue Kirkwood. The two were married for 37 years, building a home filled with love, laughter, and enduring devotion.

Bob was a proud father of four children: Chris, Tara and later, with Sue, Brittney and Tyler. He cherished each of his children deeply and took pride in the family he raised.

Above all, Bob was "Papa"-the best in the world-to his grandchildren, who were the light of his life. His love for them was boundless, and his legacy will live on through their memories, stories shared, and the warmth of his steady presence.

A man of quiet strength, Bob was known for his work ethic, his devotion to his family, and his love of hunting with plenty of storytelling. He found peace in the woods, pride in providing for those he loved, and joy in the simple moments of life.

Bob is survived by his wife, Sue; his four children, Chris (Andrea) Kirkwood, Tara (Don) Garrison, Brittney (Andy) Muth and Tyler (Elise) Kirkwood; his beloved grandchildren, Taryn + Hudson Muth, Tanner Skiba, Taylor Hunt, Jonathon Snow; great granddaughter Merrit Hankins and many extended family members and friends who will miss him dearly.

The family finds comfort in knowing that his struggles are over and that his love will continue to guide them.

A celebration of Bob's life will be held at McWilliams Funeral Home on Monday, September 22, 2025, from 3pm until the memorial service at 6pm. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in his memory to the local Hospice of Michigan or any Alpena Youth Sports Organization.
