He grew up on a farm outside of Soldier, Iowa and attended East Monona schools. After graduating in 1973, Bob moved to Hinton, Iowa where he worked at a furniture store, building and refinishing pieces. He moved back to the farm and started raising hogs. On May 31, 1980, Bob was united in marriage to Sharon Gosch and they were blessed with two children, Josie and Anthony. The family moved into town in 1984. In March of 1986, Bob started working at Ratigan in Missouri Valley, Iowa and continued to work there for many years and through the change to Anderson Automotive and finally Woodhouse. He was a mechanic and attended training classes all over the United States to obtain many certifications. Most of his years there were as a transmission tech. Bob retired in 2019 and then spent his days volunteering at “The Last Shot” gun shop in Soldier.
Bob was a member of the Soldier Lutheran Church and a longtime member of the Jordan/Soldier Volunteer Fire Department. He found joy in reading and spending time hunting. Bob could often be found tinkering in his shed. He possessed a natural talent for problem solving and enjoyed applying his knowledge to various projects. Bob also enjoyed sharing his wisdom and teaching others; his guidance left a lasting impact on many lives. Most of all, he cherished the opportunity to engage with friends and loved ones, creating lasting memories filled with laughter.
