Mr. Robert Michael "Bob" Mangan Sr, 83, of Hartwell, passed away Sunday, July 13, 2025 at his home surrounded by his family.

Born on January 23, 1942 in Newark NJ, he was the son of the late Joseph Roger Mangan and Mary Eleanor Bowel Mangan. Bob attended and graduated St. Pius X High School in Atlanta, where played on its first football team. Then he went on to attend and graduate Florida State University, where played football on a football scholarship and received his Masters from Atlanta University.

Bob retired after 43 years of service from the Fulton County School System, starting out for his first 14 years as a Football, Wrestling and Tennis Coach then finished out his career as an Assistant Principal at North Springs High School. After retiring the first time he returned to be an Assistant Principal when Northview High School was formed. Bob was a member of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus.

Survivors include his wife: Kathy Mangan; two sons: Mike Mangan of Talking Rock GA and Matt Mangan (Kim) of Sugar Hill GA; ten grandchildren: a grandson raised in the home: Matthew Mangan (Danielle) of Hartwell, Ryan Mangan, Madison Mangan, Michael Mangan, Cameron Mangan, Ella Mangan, Olivia Mangan, Connor Lynch, Aidan Lynch and Mackenzie Lynch; five great-grandchildren: Mitchell, JR, River, Kayden and Mack; a brother: Joe Mangan (Connie) of The Villages FL; a sister-in-law: Denise Mangan of Lilburn GA; several nieces and nephews and a special friend: Holly Hammond.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents and a brother: John Mangan.

Memorial Mass for Mr. Bob Mangan will be held Saturday, July 19, 2025 at 1:00 pm at the Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church with Father Tuan Pham Nguyen and Deacon Jerry Korte officiating. A meal will follow in the Church Founders Hall.

In honor of Bob, the family requests that everyone in attendance wear casual clothing. Garnett & Gold or Orange & Blue representing the school you are associated with.

In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to the Hart County Special Olympics, 59 Fifth Street, Hartwell GA 30643 or the Knights of Columbus, C/O Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, 1009 Benson Street, Hartwell GA 30643.

The Strickland Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Hartwell is in charge of all arrangements.
