Mr. Charles Ray Walters, 80, of Lake Hartwell, GA, died Monday, August 18, 2025, at his home.

Born on August 26, 1944 in Royston GA to the late George and Edna Skelton Walters. He leaves behind one brother, Clark Walters of Hartwell, two sons, Andy (Lisa) Walters and Stan Walters both of Hartwell; two grandsons, Alex Walters of Carrollton, GA and Adam Walters of Atlanta GA, one granddaughter Savannah (Josh) Nunns and one great-granddaughter Emersyn Nunns all of Royston, GA. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Alma Greenway and Ann Daniel. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Hartwell.

Charles graduated from Hart Co. High School in 1962. After working at Monroe Auto for five years he and his dad, George, began a handyman service. He carried the knowledge he gained during that time throughout the remainder of his years. He was a diverse businessman and opened Wishbone Fried Chicken in Hartwell while managing four other locations. Sometime after those doors closed the doors to Walters Cafeteria were opened in downtown Hartwell. When he wasn't cooking he was driving a school bus - which he did for fifteen years. Charles was one of the original thirteen man Hart County Civil Defense unit and he was instrumental in establishing the Hart County Fire Department. He was a dedicated volunteer fireman with the City of Hartwell Fire Department for thirty-five years. He also served with the Police Department and volunteered with the Sheriff's Department in his younger years. Charles was truly a workaholic and did not like to sit idle. He was a people person and left behind many friends he met along the way.
