Robert (Bob) Mignone of Manchester, Vermont, passed away October 13, 2024, at Albany Medical Center. Son of the late Albert and Gilda (Cirelli) Mignone, Bob was born in Providence, Rhode Island, on August 2, 1941.
For most people, there is a public person and a private person. For Bob, those distinctions hardly existed—he welcomed everyone he met as family. He had an amazing memory for people and the adventures they shared together, and he had a remarkable capacity to follow the careers and life events of all of them—delighting in their triumphs and empathizing with their struggles.
Together with all the people whose lives Bob touched, we remember:
Bob loved the ocean. Just being on a boat in Cape Cod’s salty air was his idea of summer perfection.
Bob loved the snow. A 60-year ski instructor, he delighted in teaching the sport he was passionate about for his entire life. Generations of skiers are better and safer for Bob’s expert, patient instruction. He skied the big mountains in Europe and out west, but his heart beat strongest for the mountains of southern Vermont: Okemo, Stratton, Bromley, and Magic Mountain.
Bob loved his extended family. He leaves behind sisters Paula, Karen, and Trish; brothers Rick, Tom, and Jim; nieces Mary, Monica, and Nina; nephews Matthew, Anthony, Andrew, Joseph, and David; sisters-in-law Jane and Francisca; brothers-in-law Jeff and Mike; his niece and nephews’ spouses, Marlowe, Kelly, and Jack; and great-nieces Isabelle and Ellie.
But most of all, Bob loved Pat, his wife of 58 years, who matched him on the snow and in life; Mike, his son, who shared his love of working with his hands and followed him into the ski industry; Lauri, his daughter, who followed him into the ski industry before becoming a veterinarian; and Ali, his daughter-in-law, who wrote this obituary and loved Bob like a second father.
A Celebration of Life is planned for May 30, 2025, at Wachusett Mountain Ski Area.
