Bobbie Chonko, 97 years young, died on August 17th, 2025 in Elyria, Ohio. She was born on May 19, 1928 to the late Bardie and Beulah (Smith) Hooks. Bobbie was the oldest of five children. Bobbie was a native of Lone Star, Mississippi. She married Edward Chonko of Lorain, Ohio in 1952 and upon his discharge from the US Air Force in 1955, moved with her husband and small daughter to Ohio. She retired from Ohio Education Association in Columbus, Ohio in 1988. Prior to her retirement, Bobbie had previously worked for the Ravenna Record Courier and was an active member of several social and professional organizations. She was a longtime member of the Hungarian Reformed Church of Lorain, Ohio. Bobbie is survived by her children Lynn (Ken) Lengel of Elyria, Mark (Rebecca) Chonko of Tallamadge, and Alan Chonko of Cleveland; grandchildren Kurt Chonko of Cuyahoga Falls, Kyle Chonko of Tallmadge, Garrett Chonko of Tallmadge, Nicholas Chonko of Dayton, and Jacob Chonko of Manassas, VA. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Edward Chonko of 47 years, infant brother Ben Hooks, sister Connie Whitacre of North Carolina, and brothers Sam Hooks of Collins, Mississippi and Tony Hooks of Collins, Mississippi. Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 23, 2025 from 9 – 11 AM with funeral services at 11 AM at Dovin & Reber Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst, OH 44001. Interment will follow at Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst, OH. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Bobbie's memory to the Hungarian Reformed Church, 1691 E 31st St, Lorain, OH 44055.
