Bobbie Gilbert

1940 - 2026

Bobbie Anne Sherod Gilbert, 85, of Big Timber passed away Saturday January 24, 2026 at Meadowlark Assisted Living in Columbus.

Bobbie was born August 31, 1940 in Hardin, Montana the youngest of five children born to Charles and Leone (Knapp) Sherod. She joined sisters; Wilma, Carol and Bette and her brother Ralph.

Bobbie grew up on a ranch 35 miles from Ryegate where she and her sister Bette devoted much of their time roaming the hills and having many fun adventures.

Other special people in her childhood were her niece Peggy, nephew Richard and her uncle John.

In 1954 the family moved to Georgia, and Bobbie graduated from Newton County High School in 1958, that same year, she married her handsome cowboy, Paul Gilbert, from Montana.

While in Georgia, Bobbie owned and operated a daycare.

Their first son, Alan Lester was born in Covington, GA in 1959, and their second son Kenneth Dale was born in Billings, MT in 1961.

The family resided in Georgia until 1971, and then returned to Montana to ranch on Paul's family's ranch and raise their two boys.

Bobbie and her family were baptized in the Alcovy Methodist Church, and later became members of the Big Timber Lutheran Church.

After the boys were grown, Bobbie became interested in helping and supporting families with loved ones that were nearing the end of their lives and became a hospice volunteer, and later served as the hospice coordinator. She also volunteered at the Thrift Store, she loved helping people and also delivered food to many.

One of Bobbie's favorite things to do was to cook, she always said baking was her therapy. She did a lot of baking for the Farmer's Market, and enjoyed baking cakes and caramel rolls for the Church. She also enjoyed going on trips with her grandchildren.

One of Bobbie's biggest joys and what made her the happiest was to do something for others, surprising someone with a gift or food or a present or even a flower to brighten someone's day.

Bobbie is survived by her husband of 67 years, Paul, sons; Alan (Teri), Kenneth (Suzie), five granddaughters; Regina (Jody) Putman, Chrissie (Tyler) Lambert, Becky (Dan) Smart, Kayla (David) Fields, Mandy Gibert, and her #1 favorite grandson Dale Ray Paul Gilbert, great-grandchildren Dominic, Jaden, Shane, Townsend, Elliston, Cameron, Ivy, Calen, Jaxon and Cooper.

Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held 11:00am Tuesday February 10, 2026 at the Big Timber Lutheran Church.
