MR. BOBBY JEAN GIBSON
SUNRISE-JUNE 15, 1940 – SUNSET-JANUARY 13, 2026
On Saturday, June 15, 1940, in McDuffie County, Georgia, the late Phinizy Gibson, Sr. and Alma Samuels Gibson were blessed with the birth of a son, Mr. Bobby Jean Gibson. After 85 years of a life richly lived in service and love, Bobby was peacefully called to his eternal reward on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, at Morristown Medical Center in Morristown, New Jersey, surrounded by the warmth of his loving family.
Bobby's foundation was built on education and faith. He attended the public schools of McDuffie County, Georgia, and Kent County, Michigan, graduating from McDuffie High School on June 1, 1959. At an early age, he gave his life to Christ and joined the Mount Aldred Christian Methodist Episcopal Church in Warren County, Georgia.
As a young man, Bobby moved North, eventually settling in Newark, NJ. He was a man of integrity and diligence, retiring from the United States Postal Service after many years of dedicated service. He was known as a man who ruled his household with a gentle peace, a strong sense of strength, and a loving spirit. His laughter was uplifting, and his devotion to his family was unwavering.
Welcoming him into glory are his parents; his daughter, Priscilla Anne Gibson; his son, Marvin Gibson; his former wife, Elizabeth Jeanette Hill Gibson; his sister, Hattie Lou Gibson Stapleton; two brothers, Phinizy Gibson, Jr. and Benjamin Franklin Gibson; a grandson, Devan Chapman; a great-grandson, Cyrano Jalil Green; and a son-in-law, Anthony Robertson.
Bobby's legacy of kindness and strength will continue to bloom through those who survive him: his loving wife of over 50 years, Judith Ann Dickens Gibson of Newark, New Jersey; five daughters, Barbara Jean Gibson Robertson (Richard Seaberry) of Dorchester, Massachusetts, Brenda Bernadette Gibson of East Orange, New Jersey, and Patricia Anne Gibson (Antawan Cunningham), Kellie Renee Chapman, and Noel Lynn Gibson-Dent (Quan Dent), all of Newark, New Jersey; and a daughter-in-law, Janice Baldwin Gibson of Atlanta, Georgia.
He was further blessed with a special cousin that was like a sister, Diane Revels of Kansas City, Missouri and a vibrant lineage of many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. His memory will also be held dear by a host of in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, and a community of sorrowing friends who were touched by his steady kindness.
"I have had a happy life, and I thank the Lord. Thank you for all the laughter and the love, and for standing by me until the end. Goodbye for now and may God bless you all."
"For God so loved the world, that he gave his one and only son,
that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." (JOHN 3:16)
IN LOVING MEMORY OF OUR WONDERFUL DAD
Of all the special gifts in life, however great or small,
to have you as our Dad was the greatest gift of all.
May the winds of love blow softly and whisper in your ear
"We love and miss you Dad and wish that you were here."
Deep in our hearts, your life is kept to love and cherish, not forget.
No more tomorrows we can share but yesterdays are always there.
A silent thought, a secret tear keeps your memory ever near
In our hearts forever.
We Love You Always!
Barbara, Brenda, Patty, Kellie & Noel
XOXO (hugs and kisses)
HE ONLY TAKES THE BEST
Author Unknown
God saw that he was getting tired,
A cure was not to be.
So, He put His arms around him
and whispered, "Come with Me."
With tearful eyes, we watched him suffer,
And saw him fade away.
Although we loved him dearly,
We could not make him stay.
A golden heart stopped beating,
Hard working hands to rest.
God broke our hearts to prove to us
He only takes "the best."
