Bobby Steven "Steve" Hassell Sr.

Bobby Steven "Steve" Hassell, Sr., age 65, of Elizabeth City, NC, died at Sentara Albemarle Medical Center on Tuesday, September 23, 2025. Born in Elizabeth City, on November 17, 1959, to the late Wilbert Hassell and Essie Rae McLawhorn Hassell, he was the beloved husband of 48 years of Debra "Debbie" Forbes Hassell.
Steve was a great husband, father, and grandfather. His family was the most important thing in the world to him. He was the owner/operator of Steve's Auto Repair. He was a member of the Elizabeth City Moose Lodge #1847 and Hall Masonic Lodge #53 AF & AM. He loved hunting and racing and raced stock cars for many years at Dixieland Speedway.
Steve is survived by his cherished wife, Debbie; a daughter, Amanda H. Harris and husband, Dean; a son, Steve Hassell, Jr.; four grandchildren, Hailey Harris, Emiley Harris, Ethan Hassell, and Brantley Hassell; four sisters, Dean Strain, Mable Dale (Tommie), Jennette Meads (Dennis), and Shirley Spruill (Allen); and his beloved dog, Lily Rae Hassell. He was predeceased by his parents; a sister, Hazel Eves; and two brothers, Leroy Hassell and Wilbert Hassell.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, September 29, 2025, at Twiford Memorial Chapel with Pastor Ronnie Woolard and Pastor Phillip Alligood officiating. Burial will be at West Lawn Cemetery. Steve's service will be live streamed on his obituary page at www.TwifordFH.com.
