Bobby Ray Johnston, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and lifelong member of the Weatherford community, was called home to be with the Lord on June 3, 2024, at the age of 92. His beloved wife, Melba, whom he adored for 64 years was by his side.
Born on June 14, 1931, in Weatherford, Texas, Bobby remained a dedicated resident of his hometown throughout his life.
Bobby, the eldest sibling among eight, took on the role of family leadership at the age of 30. His guidance and caring nature shone brightly, guiding his siblings through life's challenges.
On March 11, 1960, he married his sweetheart, Melba, with whom he built a beautiful family. Together, they raised their son, Roger, and daughter, Jennifer, instilling in them the values of love, loyalty, family, and compassion.
Family was at the center of Bobby's life. He was a devoted patriarch who cherished every moment spent with his loved ones. Known for his warm heart and smile, Bobby delighted in teasing his family and sharing sweet treats with his grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. His unwavering support and selflessness were a source of strength and comfort to all who knew him.
Bobby proudly served his country in the Army during the Korean War, demonstrating his commitment to duty and honor. Following his military service, he dedicated many years to working on the flight line and in assembly at General Dynamics/Lockheed Martin. In his leisure time, Bobby enjoyed dove hunting, fishing, and cheering on his favorite sports teams, especially the Texas Rangers and NFL football games. He took immense pride in attending his grandchildren's many sporting events, showing boundless enthusiasm for their achievements.
Bobby was preceded in death by his parents, Milton and Audine Johnston; his sisters, Pauline Paschal and Mary Nell Taylor; and his brothers, Kenneth Johnston and Monty Johnston. He is survived by his beloved wife, Melba Detherage Johnston; his son, Roger (Lynette) Johnston; his daughter, Jennifer (Bret) Harrell; his grandchildren, Ben (Jenna) Johnston, Katie (Matt) Privette, Grace Johnston, Dylan Harrell, and Makenna Harrell; his great-grandchildren, Jace, Calvin, and Benjamin Privette; his sisters, Nona Poynor, Marcie (JB) Lowrance, and Evelyn (Tim) Parker; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Visitation will be at Galbreaith Pickard Funeral Chapel on Thursday, June 6th, 2024, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A service to celebrate Bobby's life will be held at Galbreaith Pickard Funeral Chapel on Friday, June 7th, 2024, at 10:00 a.m.
