Arthur McKinley Erwin, Jr., known affectionately as A.M., passed away peacefully on February 11, 2026, in Weatherford, Texas, at the age of 90. Born into the family of Arthur and Betty Mae Erwin on February 26, 1935, in Denton, Texas, A.M. lived a life marked by unwavering faith, deep devotion to family, and a steadfast commitment to education and service.
A.M. pursued his academic journey at the University of North Texas in Denton, where he earned both his Bachelor's Degree in Education and a Master's in Educational Administration. His dedication to learning laid the foundation for a lifelong career. He proudly served Ft. Worth I.S.D. for 38 years as a teacher, counselor, assistant principal, and principal. In those roles, he touched the lives of many through his leadership and mentorship.
From an early age, A.M.'s faith was central to his life. He began attending Highland Baptist Church as a young boy and it was there that he accepted Jesus as his Savior. His walk with Christ was not only personal but also deeply influential—he lived out his beliefs with boldness and conviction. Prayer and Bible reading were cornerstones of his home life, and he raised his family with those same values. His love for sharing the Gospel was evident to all who knew him.
A devoted husband, A.M. shared 69 wonderful years of marriage with his beloved wife Juanita Erwin. Together they built a strong and loving family that continues to reflect their legacy of faith and unity. He is survived by their four children: Kathy DeFoor and her husband Don; Karen White; Angela Steele and her husband Jim; and Kenneth Erwin and his wife Erva.
A.M.’s influence extended across generations. He was a proud grandfather, known as Papaw to Sandra Coleman and her husband Mike; Amber Correll and her husband Jake; Samuel DeFoor and his wife Dana; Tye Erwin and his wife Marla; Tate Erwin and his wife Holly; as well as 16 great-grandchildren who carry forward the values he instilled. He also leaves behind many extended family members and life-long friends who cherished his wisdom, kindness, and strength.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, his grandson Tanner Erwin, and son-in-law Jim White.
Those who knew A.M. remember him as a man of integrity—honest, hardworking, faithful, and deeply compassionate. He had an extraordinary ability to see potential in others, offering encouragement that often changed lives long after conversations ended. Whether among neighbors or students, friends or family members, A.M.’s presence made a lasting impact.
One of his favorite pastimes was working with Juanita on their property. He could often be found tilling and planting in the garden or mowing on his tractor. He did all his own repairs on their cars and tractors and could fix just about anything. He had multiple tools in his workshop and loved to use them to help family of friends with projects.
May the memory of Arthur McKinley “A.M.” Erwin, Jr. bring comfort to all who were blessed to know him. His legacy of faithfulness, love, and strength will continue to inspire generations to come.
A Memorial Service will be held on February 15, 2026, at 02:00 p.m. at Hallmark Church, 4201 Risinger Road, Ft. Worth, Texas.
