Bobby Joe Jones was born May 21,1941 to John Robert and Mary Estelee Moore Jones in Corinth, MS. His family moved to McNairy County, where he spent most of his young life helping on the farm and attending school in Guys, TN where he was an outstanding basketball player, a sport he loved. Bobby moved his family from Guys to Arlington in 1959. Bobby was heavily involved in livestock, dairy and beef cattle and chickens; and planting and harvesting crops all over Shelby and Tipton counties. Bobby started working for Memphis Stone and Gravel in the early 90s, as a manager. He went on to retire from there.
Bobby was preceded in death by his parents, John and Mary Jones, his first wife and mother of his children, Louise, his brothers, Vernon, JT, and Billy Dan, his sisters, Bessie, Verneal, and Shirley.
He leaves behind his beloved wife of 16 years, Marilyn Potter Jones, his daughters Judy Craft (Robbie) and Pam Barthol (Patrick) of Arlington, his grandsons Ronnie Kent (Kari) of Arlington, Joseph Chapman (Ginger) of Atoka, and Dustin Kent of Arlington; his stepson, Mark Flake and step grandson, Jack of North Carolina; and many great-grandchildren.
Bobby loved his family and was happiest when he was surrounded by his children and grandchildren. He was highly respected in the community as he was always available to lend a helping hand to any of his neighbors, no matter the time of day or night. Whether it was taking someone to the doctor or helping fix a piece of farm equipment. He was a Christian, who loved and supported his church. He has served offices in the church, from Sunday School Superintendent to Chairman of the Church Council and Chair of Pastor Parish Relations. You could always count on him to be present at any community or church event. Bobby will be severely missed by his family and friends.
Services will be Tuesday, December 30 at Gratitude Methodist Church, 10454 Millington-Arlington Rd, Arlington, TN 38002. Visitation 1-2, services to begin at 2.
