Bobby Gene Thornton, age 77, Baxley passed away peacefully Monday, March 24, 2025 at his residence surrounded by his family under the care of Bethany Hospice.
Mr. Thornton was born December 21, 1947 in Appling County to the late Evens Thornton and the late Odell Williams Thornton. He attended Zion Church of God and was a retired carpenter and tree surgeon. Mr. Thornton was the president of Poor Boy Hunt Club for 38 years and was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and watching Nascar. He was always full of life and wit. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Oline Thornton Eason, Mary Frances Thornton, and Gloria Faye Thornton, and brothers, Alton Thornton, Kenneth Thornton, and Ronnie Thornton.
Survivors include his wife, Darlene Aycock Thornton of Baxley; daughter, Kayla (Jason) Daniels of Baxley; sons, Robert E. “Robby” Thornton and Colby (Shelby) Thornton both of Baxley; brothers, Willie Herald Thornton, Frank Thornton, and Donnie Thornton all of Baxley; and a close nephew, Ernie Eason of Baxley. Five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 27, 2025 at 4:00 p.m. at Zion Church of God with Pastor Danny Horne officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Stevie Morris, Tommy Christie, T. J. Christie, Ray Reese, Mikel Taylor, and Larry Pitt.
Honorary pallbearers will be the members of Poor Boy Hunt Club.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Swain Funeral Home.
