Bobbye Heard Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Coleman Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Oxford on Mar. 31, 2026.
Coleman Funeral Home of Oxford

Bobbye Nell Heard, 89, of Oxford, passed away on March 29, 2026, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in New Albany, Mississippi.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, April 01, 2026, from 11:30 AM until 1:00 PM at Coleman Funeral Home of Oxford. The funeral service celebrating her life will occur immediately following the visitation, beginning at 1:00 PM in the chapel of Coleman Funeral Home with Bro. Steve Phillips officiating. Bobbye Nell will be laid to rest beside her husband, Charles R Heard Sr, in Kingdom Cemetery.

Bobbye Nell graced this world with her presence on June 12, 1936, in Coahoma County, Mississippi, as one of the six children born to the late Thomas E Dye and Maudie Vanlandingham Dye.

She was a cherished member of Bethel Baptist Church and a beacon of faith to all who knew her. Her life was a testament to devotion, kindness, and the simple joys of family and community.

Bobbye's kitchen was the heart of her home, where she delighted in cooking for her loved ones, serving up delicious meals that brought everyone together. Her love for Southern Gospel music filled her home with harmony and hope, echoing her own steadfast spirit.

Bobbye enjoyed sewing and created pieces for her family. Bobbye also enjoyed gardening, where she found peace and joy caring for her flowers and vegetables.

Saturdays in the fall were spent cheering on SEC football, a pastime she relished, sharing the excitement with friends and family. In her younger years, Bobbye was an avid basketball player at Dublin High School, where she forged friendships and memories that lasted a lifetime.

Bobbye's adventurous spirit led her to the Ozark and Smoky Mountains, places she loved to visit and explore. Above all, she treasured every opportunity to gather with friends and family, filling her days with laughter, love, and meaningful conversation.

Her faith, warmth, and unwavering love will be dearly missed but fondly remembered by all who had the privilege to know her.

She leaves behind a loving family to continue walking down the path of life in her absence: her son, Charles R. Heard Jr, and his wife, Janice of Oxford, Mississippi; one grandson, Russ Heard, and his wife, Tricia of Oxford, Mississippi; and a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

The loved ones who departed this life before her include: her parents, Thomas E. Dye and Maudie Vanlandingham Dye; one grandson, Andy Heard; and five siblings: J.D. Dye, Vivian Barnett, Lea Lunceford, Evellette Chandler, and Morris Dye.

In place of traditional flowers, the family has asked that donations be given to the following organizations: Kingdom Cemetery Fund, mail checks or money orders to New Prospect Baptist Church at 823 Hwy 334, Oxford, MS 38655, and additionally, Love Worth Finding Ministries, mail checks or money orders to 2941 Kate Bond Rd, Memphis, Tennessee 38133.

The staff at Coleman Funeral Home of Oxford is honored to serve the family during this challenging season of life. Condolences may be expressed online on her Tribute wall at www.colemanfuneralhomeox.com
