On July 15, 2025, Boyd Arthur, 92, went to the mansion Jesus prepared.
Boyd was baptized in White Oak Creek as a teenager and became a member of Red Oak United Methodist Church. In 1950, he graduated from Lockwood High School. He married Retah Ritchie at the Christian Church in Carthage in 1953, and they celebrated their 72nd anniversary in April. Boyd served in the United States Army in the Green Beret Special Forces and is a Korean War veteran. He was a rural letter carried for many years and farmed on the side with his dad. Upon retiring from the US Postal Service, he continued to farm raising cattle and hay. Boyd was also a member of Farm Bureau where he served many years as President.
Boyd was preceded in death by his parents, Harvey, and Beulah (Easson) Arthur, three brothers, Robert, Ivan and Howard and his sister, Barbara Robertson.
Boyd is survived by his wife, Retah; daughter, Sherry (Chuck) Curtis; son, Randy (Yhulonda) Arthur; four grandchildren, Cassie (Zach) Shockey, Chase (Jill) Curtis, Stephanie (Johnathon) Nixon and Travis Arthur; two step grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; six step great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and many friends.
A funeral service with Rev. Bob McQueen officiating will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 19, 2025, at Fossett-Mosher Funeral Home, in Mt. Vernon. Burial will follow at the Red Oak Memorial Cemetery with Military Honors. Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Friday, July 18, 2025, in the funeral home chapel.
The family has requested memorial donations be made to the Red Oak Memorial Cemetery in care of the funeral home.
