March 21, 1939 – September 9, 2025“We’re off like a herd of turtles.” — Boyd Halverson

Boyd Halverson lived a full and joyful life that touched everyone who knew him. Born in Spanish Fork, Utah, on March 21, 1939, to Merrill and Doris Halverson. He passed away peacefully on September 9th, 2025, in Gunnison Hospital

Boyd grew up with a twinkle in his eye and a mischievous grin that never faded. A lifelong lover of fishing, he spent countless hours by the water with a rod in hand and a joke on his lips. Whether the fish were biting or not, Boyd always had a story to tell and a way of making everyone laugh — often at their own expense, and always with love.

Boyd grew up in Mapleton, Utah. He graduated from Springville High School to class of 1957, where it was once said, “He only went to school ‘cause the crowd did.” Shortly after, Boyd proudly served in the United States Marine Corps for two years.

He was a tireless worker who never could sit still — from his years at Geneva, Micron, years as a pipe fitter, IPP plant, to his later days caring for Deer Hollow Ranch.

Boyd spent his life working hard, never cutting corners, and always showing up — whether for a job, a friend, or a family member in need. His hands were rough, his back was strong, and his word meant everything.

Though not always the easiest man to convince, Boyd was always the first to lend a hand, offer advice (solicited or not), or sneak you a treat when no one was looking. Beneath the stubborn exterior was a heart that beat fiercely for his family and friends.

Boyd shared 42 beautiful years with the love of his life, Judy Halverson. He dedicated his life to her happiness and well-being, and together they built a home full of laughter, teasing, and unconditional love.

He is survived by:

Brother Joe (Brenda) Halverson from Wichita, Kansas

Daughter Lisa (James) Nielsen from Spanish Fork, Utah

Son Dan (Angie) Erickson from Axtell, Utah

Bonus daughter Lisa Mangan from Centerfield, Utah

Daughters Shona Erickson from Mesquite, Nevada, and Michelle Trout from Waco, Texas

Daughters Dori from Mayfield, Utah, and Amy from Payson, Utah

20+ Grandkids

14+ great grandkids

3+ great great grandkids

He was preceded in death by:

Parents Merrill and Doris Halverson

His beloved wife Judy Halverson

Daughter Angela Martin

Brother Dick Halverson

Sisters Barbara Kissel and Rosemarie Steele

Forever son-in-law Randy Carter

Boyd leaves behind a lifetime of stories that will be retold with laughter, a shake of the head, and maybe a few tears — just the way he would have wanted.

He was never serious for long, always ready with a joke and a tease. His signature phrases —

“Keep your nose clean,”

“Reel it realll slow,” and

“Do you want ram, ham, bam, bo, beef, or bear?” — will echo in the hearts of those who loved him.

Special thanks to the Christensen family for their care and support throughout Boyd’s years.

We’ll miss his stubborn streak. We’ll miss his mischief. We’ll miss his stories, his laughter, and the way he made even the most ordinary day feel a little more interesting
