Boyd Leon Schierbaum, age 82, a longtime resident of Bonner Springs, Kansas, passed away on Tuesday, June 10th, 2025, at his home. A memorial gathering will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, June 26th, at the Harrington Family Event Center, next to the Alden-Harrington Funeral Home.
Boyd was born on June 1, 1943, at his family's home near Spickard, Missouri, and was one of four children born to Fred & Venice (Golden) Schierbaum. He grew up on his family's farm near Spickard and graduated from Spickard High School in the Class of 1961. Boyd proudly served in the US Army during the Vietnam Era, serving primarily in Europe, which allowed him to travel to several European countries while on leave. After returning from the Service, he and his brothers operated Muncie Motors together. Later, he worked for Tempco Heating and Air-Conditioning. Boyd then went to work at Harvey Brothers Trucking in Kansas City, KS, until his retirement in September of 2004. Boyd enjoyed watching racing of all types, especially NASCAR.
He was preceded in death by his Parents, sister Vina Schierbaum, one brother, Dale Schierbaum, and one granddaughter, Michelle Hawkins.
Survivors include his two sons: Steve Hawkins (Tanya) of Tonganoxie, Kansas, and Bobby Hawkins (Leslea) of Kansas City, KS. Brother Doran Schierbaum of Edwardsville, KS., nephew Jeff Schierbaum (Eydie) of Basehor, KS., Seven Grandchildren: Keeley, Erin, Joe, Colton, Kristen, Charlie, Steven, and ten great-grandchildren. As well as other nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
