Brad Close of San Francisco, CA, formerly of Deerfield, IL, passed away peacefully at home on September 17, 2024 at the age of 73.
Born September 7, 1951 in Milton, Massachusetts the oldest child born to the union of Charles Robert and Ruth Close, Brad was a proud 1969 graduate of Deerfield High School, where he was a member of the golf team and played club hockey. He went on to earn a degree in Parks and Recreation from Southern Illinois University Carbondale. His career began at the Lake Forest Recreation Department under the mentorship of Fred Jackson, before he transitioned to the Chicago Options Exchange. In 1988, Brad moved to San Francisco when he was transferred to the local exchange and eventually retired as a vice president with Goldman Sachs.
An avid sports fan, Brad remained a lifelong supporter of the Chicago Cubs, Bears, and Blackhawks, while also embracing several California teams. He cherished annual trips to Arizona for spring training with friends, which were among his most treasured memories.
Brad is survived by his siblings: Don (Linda) Close of Ocala, FL, Robin (Neal) Geitner of Lake Forest, and Janet (Tom) Rynne of Glen Ellyn. He was a beloved uncle to Kate, Kyle, Tyler, and Annie Geitner, and Kimberly and Tom Rynne.
Brad's warmth, humor, and love for family and friends will be dearly missed.
Services are private and interment will take place at Willow Lawn Memorial Park, Vernon Hills, Illinois.
Memorials to the Greater Chicago Food Depository in Brad's name would be appreciated.
