Bradley Hickok Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Merle Hay Funeral Home on Nov. 8, 2025.

Publish in a newspaper

April 30, 1963-November 5, 2025

Bradley Joseph Hickok, known as Brad or B2 by friends and family, passed unexpectedly on the morning of November 5, 2025.

Brad was born April 30, 1963 in Charles City, Iowa to Sally Jo (Sperry) and William R Hickok.

He enjoyed automotive work, working at Amoco service stations when young. He moved on to open his own business, Metro Towing, growing the service for more than a decade before deciding to retrain in IT. Brad earned an Associate's degree at AIB in Des Moines and went to work for Wells Fargo IT, where he did IT support for 24 years.

Brad's life was filled with many talents and times to enjoy. Among his passions were NASCAR or Cup Racing, sometimes as a spectator, sometimes as crew for various race teams. He and older brother Bill have helped many teams over the years. Brad first became involved in working races in 1990, operating his tow truck as part of a corner workers crew for Des Moines Grand Prix.

Brad was very athletic and enjoyed various water sports. He was a diver for Valley High School, was an avid water skier for many years, and he enjoyed spending time on the water in a canoe, sailboat, speed boat, or jet ski over the years. He enjoyed ice fishing as well as fishing. He enjoyed hunting and bow hunting, and camping. He anticipated the big snows each year, excited to get out on his snowmobile. In earlier years, Brad enjoyed snow skiing. In truth, Brad loved to be outdoors!

More than any of these activities, Brad loved spending time with family and friends; especially if that time could be spent sharing in one of his favorite activities.

Brad was preceded in death by his mother Sally (Sperry) Lebeck and step-father Robert Lebeck; father Bill Hickok; grandparents June and Dick Sperry, and Esther and James Hickok; step-father Leo Schultz; and step-brother Brian Lebeck; aunts and uncles and cousins on both sides of his family.

Brad is survived by brothers, Bill (Emiley) Hickok of West Des Moines, Bob (Lori) Hickok of West Des Moines, and Brian Hickok of Clive; step-sisters Sharon (Jim) Rasmussen of Ankeny and Cris Lebeck Olson of Minneapolis; niece Chloe Hickok; nephew Cody Hickok; step-niece; Lisa (Kasey) Anderson, Rachel Rasmussen and Hannah Rasmussen; step-nephews Adam Lebeck and Andrew (Brooke) Rasmussen; aunt Nancy Dommel; uncles Jim Hickok and Al Heavey; many cousins; and his best friend, Diana Collins and family.

Brad's life cannot be summed up with these few words, nor can the love he shared for those he considered family and friends be adequately expressed. Brad's shy demeanor often eclipsed his passion for life and those around him.

Services will be held at Merle Hay Funeral Home (4400 Merle Hay Road, Des Moines, IA 50310) on Saturday, November 22nd. Visitation will begin at 4 p.m., followed by a memorial service at 5 p.m. After the service, a reception with food and refreshments will be held in the chapel. All are welcome to attend.

Services will be livestreamed, the livestream link can be found here.

It´s the weekend at Denny´s and I walk in and get a hug from my aunt Diana Collins and Brad. Yes Brad! my smoking, buddy even after I quit smoking. Sharing his stories about his latest hunt, his latest fishing expedition, his latest snowmobiling experience or the latest race track he helped out at.I danced, with his mom, Sally and his brother Brian and I talked to Bob. We enjoyed listening to live bands..He will be missed by everyone who ever called him, friend. My family loved him and he was family to us! Forever in our hearts love you, Brad!
