Brady Jarrett, of Oswego, passed away on the afternoon of Wednesday, January 22, 2025, at Labette Health, Parsons at the age of 66.
Born the fourth son of Norman and Bertie Jarrett, now Tilberg, on June 5, 1958, Brady entered life in Baxter Springs, Kansas.
In the years between those two events, he loved but lost his father when he was just a little boy, but after a while another man, Frank Albertini, arrived to serve as a provider and father figure. A few short decades later, Brady had to say goodbye to that man as well.
Also in between that pair of one-time engagements in those two little hospital rooms, Brady was educated, graduating Chetopa High School in 1976. He didn't take to college, but demonstrated over and over that he was willing and able to learn and master anything a particular job required. In his time working for ICI Explosives, which was eventually absorbed by Dyno Nobel, Brady was responsible for innovations in blasting that, once he proved their efficacy, became the industry standard going forward.
Shortly after high school, back to 1977, Brady married Toni - Wilkinson then, Overman now. Together they had a pair of sons, Joel in 1978 and Dustin in 1981. Brady and Toni's marriage didn't last forever. Not all do.
But, family is family and love, if it's real, never ends.
That notion is something that Brady had to be familiar with. He was charming and charismatic and genuinely a good friend to many, many people from many walks of life throughout his too-few decades. He also found himself the object of adoration and recipient of affection and care from a few wonderful women and their contribution to his happiness in life cannot be understated, even if Brady tended to avoid making long term commitments - or any commitments at all sometimes.
He valued his friends and his family and those who loved him but he was fiercely independent and enjoyed his solitude at times. Sometimes that meant hunting, or searching around for bottles or arrowheads, looking for toys and trinkets and signs from ages passed, tossing matches into persistent patches of weeds that kept sprouting up or just watching westerns on TV.
Sometimes there was a friend or a dog or a woman or a brother or a son who was fortunate enough to be allowed to accompany him as he engaged in those activities. Those of us who were there for some of those times will treasure them.
Brady was a good man.
Preceded in death by his father, Norman Jarrett, his adopted father, Frank Albertini and his brother, Frank along with a series of dogs, Brady leaves behind his mother, Bertie Tilberg, his brothers' families; Scott and Debbie Jarrett and Jay Jarrett along with each brother's respective children and grandchildren including those of his brother Frank who passed away in 2023. Brady also is survived by his sons' families; Joel and Courtney Jarrett and Dustin and Marissa Jarrett who provided Brady with three beloved grandchildren, Delaney, Brady and Hudson, and Brady's partner of the last decade, Cheryl Wilkerson.
Cremation was chosen under the direction of Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held at the Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home at 605 Locust Street in Chetopa, KS at 1:30pm on Friday, January 31st.
