Braeden Ross DeFrees

Braeden was born on April 17th, 1988 in Waco, Texas to Karie Lea DeFrees and Dwayne Allen DeFrees. He was a graduate of Lorena High School in 2006 and Baylor University in 2012. Braeden was a talented baseball player, earning multiple All-State and Super-Centex honors throughout his high school career. He was also a member of the first ever Lorena Baseball state champion team in 2003.

After graduating from Baylor, Braeden worked for the state of Texas in Austin from 2012 to 2013. In 2014 he began his career at Oncor Electric Delivery, starting in revenue management, then moving to energy efficiency, then measurement services, and ending as an auto process manager. He is the third generation DeFrees to work for Oncor, proudly joining the legacy of his grandfather and father.

Braeden met the love of his life, Hileana Tamez DeFrees, at Oncor, where they were hired at the same time and met on their first days. Braeden was immediately drawn to her confident and vivacious personality and had a crush on her from day one. They began dating three years later and were married on December 28th, 2018. From their dating days to their marriage days, Braeden and Hileana lived fully. They loved to travel the world as well as explore the city of Dallas. They were quick to say yes to their friends and family, and you could always count on them to bring joy and laughter. Hileana brought out the best in Braeden, and their deep love for each other was clear to anyone who saw them together.

Braeden and Hileana went on to have two sons, Leonardo André DeFrees on August 12th, 2020 and Christopher Ross DeFrees on March 20th, 2024. Braeden was a devoted father whose love for his sons permeated every aspect of his life. He was present for them, always willing to listen to what they had to say, always quick to join in on whatever they were playing with, and always there as a safe place for them. He was Leo's and Christopher's favorite person in the world, and dad and husband were his two proudest titles.

Encapsulating Braeden in just a few words is difficult, because he was so much to so many people. One of his most remarkable qualities was his ability to build and nurture lasting friendships. From early childhood through high school, college, and into adulthood, Braeden kept close, meaningful connections with those he cared about. He loved a good conversation, whether it was funny banter or talking about life in a deeper way. People were drawn to his warmth, patience, and kindness. Simply put, Braeden was the kind of person you wanted to spend time with.

The devastation we feel from his loss is evidence of how big he lived and loved. As his son Leonardo said, "I have everything in the world."

Braeden is survived by his wife: Hileana Tamez DeFrees of Rockwall, TX; sons: Leonardo André DeFrees and Christopher Ross DeFrees; parents: Dwayne Allen DeFrees and Karie Lea DeFrees of Waco, TX; sisters" Braylie Paige DeFrees of Waco, TX and Brooke DeFrees Schafer and husband Luke of Fayetteville, AR; niece: Locke Schafer; grandmothers: Nelda Thompson of Waco, TX and Billie Faye DeFrees. He is preceded in death by his grandfathers; Bobby Joe Thompson and Billy Ray DeFrees.

Funeral services will be held 2:00pm on Tuesday, August 26 2025, at Rest Haven Funeral Home - Rockwall, Texas. A visitation will be held the night prior on August 25,2025 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at Rest Haven Funeral Home – Rockwall, Texas.

Braeden nació el 17 de abril de 1988 en Waco, Texas, hijo de Karie Lea DeFrees y Dwayne Allen DeFrees. Se graduó de la Preparatoria Lorena en 2006 y de la Universidad de Baylor en 2012. Braeden fue un padre devoto cuyo amor por sus hijos impregnaba cada aspecto de su vida. Estaba presente para ellos, siempre dispuesto a escuchar lo que tenían que decir, siempre dispuesto a participar en cualquier juego con el que jugaran y siempre ahí como un refugio para ellos. Era la persona favorita de Leo y Christopher, y padre y esposo eran sus dos títulos de los que se sentían más orgullosos.

Resumir a Braeden en pocas palabras es difícil, porque significaba mucho para tanta gente. Una de sus cualidades más notables era su capacidad para forjar y cultivar amistades duraderas. Desde la infancia, pasando por la secundaria, la universidad y la edad adulta, Braeden mantuvo vínculos estrechos y significativos con sus seres queridos. Le encantaba una buena conversación, ya fueran bromas divertidas o hablar de la vida de una manera más profunda. La gente se sentía atraída por su calidez, paciencia y amabilidad. En resumen, Braeden era el tipo de persona con la que uno quería pasar tiempo.

La devastación que sentimos por su pérdida es evidencia de lo mucho que vivió y amó. Como dijo su hijo Leonardo: "Lo tengo todo en el mundo".

A Braeden le sobreviven su esposa, Hileana Tamez DeFrees, de Rockwall, Texas; sus hijos: Leonardo André DeFrees y Christopher Ross DeFrees; sus padres: Dwayne Allen DeFrees y Karie Lea DeFrees, de Waco, Texas; Hermanas: Braylie Paige DeFrees, de Waco, Texas, y Brooke DeFrees Schafer, y su esposo Luke, de Fayetteville, Arkansas; sobrina: Locke Schafer; abuelas: Nelda Thompson, de Waco, Texas, y Billie Faye DeFrees.
