Brandon Luke Rampersad, beloved husband, son, brother, nephew, grandson, cousin and friend, passed away on March 26, 2025, at the age of 29. Born on December 21, 1995, to Jay Rampersad and Hema Gangaram Rampersad, Brandon's journey took him across the world-from Trinidad, to Venezuela, California, New Orleans, Mumbai, and finally, Houston, Texas. A graduate of Presentation College in 2013, Brandon pursued higher education at Texas Tech University from 2014 to 2017. On February 11, 2023, he married the love of his life, Shelly-Ann Mahase, in Houston, beginning a beautiful chapter together.
Brandon lived with passion and curiosity, finding joy in performance cars, bodybuilding, camping, video games, bowling, audiobooks and when the occasion permitted, SCUBA diving and snow skiing. He had a deep love for geology, rocks, and dinosaurs-interests that reflected his inquisitive and creative mind. His favorite foods included Italian cuisine, steaks, and, above all, chocolate and "Trini" KFC.
Those who knew Brandon will remember his rare combination of intelligence, humility, and kindness. He was deeply empathetic, soft-spoken yet witty, open-minded, and adventurous. Though reserved at times, his playful spirit shone through. A loving and protective big brother, he was a source of guidance and strength to his siblings. His passion for cars, rocks, dinosaurs, and fantasy fiction was infectious, making him a true kindred spirit to all who shared his interests. Brandon is survived by his wife, Shelly-Ann; his parents, Jay and Hema; his brother, Rhys; his sister, Chloe; and a cherished extended family of aunts, uncles, grandmothers, and cousins. His presence will be deeply missed but forever remembered.
A funeral service to celebrate Brandon's life will be held at 10:00 a.m. Houston time and 11:00 am Trinidad time on Tuesday, April 1, 2025, in the Chapel of Schmidt Funeral Home – Grand Parkway, with Rev. Tyler Henderson of Grand Lakes Presbyterian Church officiating. Pallbearers will include Jay Rampersad, Rhys Rampersad, Chloe Rampersad, Shelly-Ann Mahase, Thomas Kirkscey, and Bungheon Yoo. Brandon's life was a beautiful testament to kindness, curiosity, and love. Though his time with us was far too short, his impact on the lives he touched will last forever.
