I happened upon this obit just today. I am very sorry to see of Brandon's passing. He was my first film acting coach and I actually got my SAG card doing a scene with him I a movie shot in Louisiana. We had quite a few laughs and I learned much about acting from him.. My condolences to Kate and his kids. Rest in peace my friend.

I always thought Brandon was a really nice and talented guy. Knew him home room, & mixed chorus in high school. I am so glad that he lived a full life doing what he loved and had a family that loved him. Jan Spiller Ravenhill

He had a calling in his life. Just like I had a calling. I was his RN 7 days a week for 14 days straight before I finally needed a break. If I had not taken that break his infection might have healed without surgery. I loved him! I prayed he would call on Jesus as he died and he knew it because I told him. He was thankful and gifted. I too loved him Kate just in a different way. He was such a kind and giving man but he would cuss ya out if you were hurting him. The cussing was never at me directly but I actually learned a few new cuss words. You have my deepest sympathy Ms. Kate. May God show you the way. Bless you my dear sister.
Love,
Stacy Kunetka now Parker.

I remember standing in line for homeroom outside the shacks at Lanier and up walks Brandon, with his hair dyed blond. He said it was for his character in a play. That was when I first realized who he would become. He played alto and I the tenor sax, we jammed at a schoolmates house on weekends, and participated in stage band. We got along great all through Lamar, he was always kind and thoughtful. What an interesting guy, he will be missed. Rest in peace Brandon.

How much I miss my dear friend Brandon Smith who I´ve known since we were young teenagers. We worked together, schooled together and became dear friends for life. Always full of energy, deep thought and humor, Brandon was a first-rate actor, teacher and director. His commitment to the craft is unsurpassed and he is sorely missed. Only time will heal. I send my deepest sympathy to his family and many friends. I´ll see you beyond the veil my dear~

Wow...what a shock! Brandon was a family friend as my Mother was an actress who knew his mother well and Brandon in the early days of his acting career. Brandon lived in my house in Houston after I moved away until I was able to sell it and he sent me an autographed photo which I have displayed on the wall of my office for over two decades. A great talent and a wonderful person who will be dearly missed.

Brandon sat next to me in the Lamar Chorus and I have kept up with him through his movies and live theater. When I saw him perform at the Alley Theater (A Lie of the Mind) I was totally blown away by his powerful acting which stunned the audience and made me realize how great he was. A great performer and a great person. He always joked that he would eventually replace Gene Hackman. He will be missed.

Yikes! The perils of language. I didn't make clear in my previous comment that my distance from Brandon in high school had nothing to do with him, everything to do with my failing health, which was invisible, and which resulted in my avoidance of everyone in high school. Brandon was a remarkably kind and gentlemanly man, always. His death shocked and saddened me. If you wish to edit my previous tribute to him with parts of this, please do.

I remember Brandon very well. He was a lovely fellow. Once, in 1966 or 1967, I saw him in a matinee performance at the old Alley Theatre, on Berry St. It was arena theatre, with not a bad seat in the place. I was seated on the front row. Brandon spotted me. At 14, he was already such a skilled actor, he was able to give me a subtle nod, "Hello," without anyone else's noticing. I wish I had gotten to know Brandon better, but by the time we were in high school, the adverse effects of the traumatic brain injury I'd gotten in the bombing at Poe School, in 1959, were beginning to catch up with me, and I wasn't fit company, intellectually or emotionally, for anyone. My inability to get to know Brandon better was yet one more loss which the TBI imposed on me, and one which I've been feeling keenly in the half hour since Jon sent out the obituary.

Rest in Peace, dear friend. My deepest sympathies to Kate and family.
I feel so fortunate to have counted Brandon as a friend for so many years because Brandon was "a friend indeed."
I always thought Brandon was the most stand up guy I ever knew. In addition to being the fun, funny, wildly talented, witty, always smiling, always full of infectious energy, handsome man that he was, he was also amazingly kind and generous. Whether he was mentoring young actors or helping out a friend in need, he gave of his time, energy and means unhesitatingly. I will never forget Brandon´s many kindnesses to Ricky Carlson and to me after Ricky´s death.
He was a rare gift and will be missed by all who ever knew him.

I met Brandon in the Seventies when I was a student at his mom's Studio VII theater school at Houston Music Theater in the round. Brandon was quite the ladies man. He was very handsome with a huge personality. Later on I would see him sometimes in movies. One day my husband & I were at the movies, & a preview came on for the remake of the Alamo. There was Brandon standing next to Billy Bob Thornton. I hollered out "That's Brandon Smith!! I know him!!
I am so sad & sorry that Brandon has left us. My sincerest condolences to his family.

Sending our love and prayers to your family - I was a classmate of Brandon's at Lamar, and enjoyed many supporting roles with him in drama productions. A wonderful person and so talented. I'm sure many of our Lamar classmates would welcome the opportunity to honor him and your family - please let me know of any plans and I can email to our classmates. Very much love and good prayers, Jon Jenett

May you rest in peace my dear, dear friend. I will always remember the great times we had, so many throughout our lives. Starting at Lanier Jr. High, going on dates in your mom's Cadillac. Forever in my heart, thankful to have had you in my life for so many years. Rest in the arms of the Lord Brandon. You were a wonderful person, and will be missed by so many...

From the days of the Houston Theatre Center, where Brandon was directed by my mom and appeared with her in HTC productions, through his time at the Alley, where I was fortunate enough to work as an actor, Brandon always "set the bar" very high; someone who inspired others to always give everything they had to their craft. To this day, the best production I have ever seen at the Alley Theatre was A Lie of the Mind. What a show! What a cast! Jeff Bennett, Bettye Fitzpatrick, Sarah Hill, Annalee Jefferies, Greg Keane(Williams) Charles Krohn, Marietta Marich and Brandon Smith. They were all brilliant! But Brandon was electrifying!!!! I often reflect on his performance and will never forget it! He gave everyting to his work and was always kind to me and so damn funny!! RIP "sweet prince." I am sending peace, love and strength to all of his family.

I was lucky to work as a young actor at the Alley Theatre in the eighties. It was a privilege to see Brandon Smith work onstage. I am grateful to have known him. He was a bright light. Wishing each of you love and comfort as you process Brandon's passing. May he rest in beautiful light and peace. He gave much in his life.
