Mrs. Brenda Jane (McIver) Barnes, age 79, of Sanford, NC, transitioned to eternal rest on Monday, October 19, 2025, at her residence.
In Loving Memory of Brenda Jane (McIver) Barnes
SANFORD, NC – Brenda Jane (McIver) Barnes, 79, a beacon of love, intelligence, and grace, passed away peacefully on October 20, 2025, in her hometown of Sanford, North Carolina. She was surrounded by her devoted husband, Henaro, and her faithful little dog, Trooper.
Brenda was born on June 13, 1946, in Sanford, NC, to the late Marvin McIver and Theasa McIver. She was a beloved sister to Marvin McIver Jr., with whom she shared a close bond. From these humble Carolina roots, Brenda's journey of ambition and achievement began.
In 1963, she moved to New York, where she would build an impressive life and career. A lifelong learner, Brenda pursued her education with determination, attending the New York Institute of Banking, Pace University, and St. Johns University. She earned degrees in banking and business management, laying the foundation for a remarkable professional life. Brenda dedicated 32 years to Chase Manhattan Bank, where her sharp mind and strong work ethic led her to the esteemed position of Second Vice President. Not one to rest on her laurels, she later earned her real estate license and enjoyed a successful second career as a real estate agent.
On June 24, 1963, Brenda married the love of her life, Henaro Barnes. Together, they built a beautiful family, raising two sons, Cyrus Jason Barnes and Darryl Lee Barnes. Brenda's heart was her home, and she created a warm, welcoming space for all who entered. She was the kind of person who never met a stranger; her genuine warmth and engaging spirit ensured that everyone she met quickly became a friend.
Brenda lived by a simple philosophy: set your standards high and you will succeed. This belief propelled her to achieve and excel in everything she put her mind to, from her professional pursuits to her role as a matriarch. She was a source of inspiration and strength for her entire family.
Brenda's legacy of love lives on through her husband of 62 years, Henaro Barnes; her sons, Cyrus Barnes and Darryl Lee Barnes; her daughter-in-law, Karen Barnes; her grandchildren, Jhane Barnes and Jaquan Harris; and her great-grandchildren, Kinsley Barnes and Jaylin Harris. She is also survived by a host of loving family members and countless friends who were blessed to know her.
She will be profoundly missed, but her vibrant spirit, her unwavering love, and the beautiful memories she created will forever be cherished by all who knew her.
