Brenda Kay Bates, 68, of Fargo, ND, passed away Friday, December 6, 2024, in Fargo at Eventide Senior Community Living, surrounded by her loving family. 

Brenda Kay Bates was born December 31, 1955, the daughter of Donald and Marilyn (Johnson) Bates in Morris, MN. She was baptized at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Norcross, MN and raised in St. Cloud, MN, where she graduated from Apollo High School in 1974. During her high school years, Brenda was active in DECA and volunteered as a Candy Striper at St. Cloud Hospital. Following graduation, she went on to further her education attending tech school in Minneapolis and St. Cloud. 

Brenda began her professional career at Anderson Trucking in St. Cloud where she worked as a secretary. Brenda’s journey in life would then lead her to marry and to this union they welcomed three daughters, Nicole, Jamie and Tami. The family established their home in Herman, MN. Brenda would later relocate back to St. Cloud where she held various employment roles in the area. In 2010, she moved to Fargo and for the last few years has resided in assisted living and nursing care facilities. 

Brenda was known for her creative spirit and enjoyed crafting, crocheting and cooking. Having a great love for the outdoors, she enjoyed fishing and cherished spending time at the family lake home. Brenda also spent a number of winters in Texas with her parents. 

She is survived by her mother, Marilyn Bates; daughters, Nicole (James) Bowman, Aberdeen, SD and Jamie (Scott) Bertram, Herman, MN; grandchildren, Morgan and Brayden Bowman, Makayla, Hayley and Isabelle Bertram, and Jace Pederson; brothers, Brian (Lorrie) Bates, Apple Valley, MN and Scott (Susan) Bates, Fargo, ND; and nephews, Andrew (Wendi) Bates, Adam “AJ” (Kayla) Bates, and Alexander (Jazlyn) Bates; great nieces and nephews, Mackenzie, Kambryn, Ryker, Emilia, Carter and Cecilia.

She was preceded in death by her father, Donald; and daughter, Tami Pederson. 

A Visitation of Brenda will be Thursday, December 12, 2024, beginning at 10:00 AM, followed by her Funeral Service at 11:00 AM, at Korsmo Funeral and Cremation Service, Moorhead, MN, followed by a luncheon.  The Graveside Service will be at 2:45 PM, Thursday in Lakeside Cemetery, Herman, MN
