Brenda Marie Blitz, née Souder, a cherished kindergarten teacher, devoted mother and grandmother passed away peacefully on March 23, 2026, in Laurel, Maryland. Born on July 1, 1943, in Maryland, Brenda’s life was one marked by compassion, humor, and an unwavering love for those around her.
A proud graduate of Bowie State University, Brenda dedicated her career to shaping young minds as a kindergarten teacher for Glenelg County Schools. Her patience and natural abilities made her not only an excellent educator but also a trusted mentor to countless children. Her quick wit and loving nature brought warmth to every classroom she entered, leaving an indelible mark on students, parents, and colleagues alike.
Brenda’s passion extended beyond the classroom. She was an active member of the Laurel Historical Society, the Garden Club, and The Rotary Club of Laurel, embracing each with her characteristic enthusiasm and dedication. Her love for gardening and cooking reflected a nurturing spirit, while her keen interest in local history and family genealogy revealed her deep connection to her roots. Brenda also delighted in travel and was a devoted theatre enthusiast, frequently attending shows at Olney Theatre, Toby's Dinner Theatre, and Laurel Mill Playhouse, where she found joy in storytelling and community.
She is lovingly remembered by her husband of 59 years, Jeffrey Blitz, whose partnership was a foundation of strength and love. Together, they raised two daughters, Rebecca Blitz and Janice Blitz, who carry forward their mother’s legacy of kindness and determination. Brenda’s heart was fullest when surrounded by her two granddaughters, Gabriella Coco and Payton Albers, whom she adored beyond measure.
Her family circle also includes her sister, Roberta Shaffer (Doug), and three nieces and two nephews: Stephanie Shaffer, Genevieve Shaffer-Zorb, Taylor Duval, Steven Fultz, and Billy Duval. She was preceded in death by her beloved parents: Robert and Vestie Souder, who undoubtedly instilled in her the values that guided her extraordinary life.
Brenda Marie Blitz’s compassionate soul and warm laughter will be deeply missed but remain forever in the hearts of all who knew her. Her legacy lives on in the seeds she planted—in gardens, classrooms, family ties, and community bonds—each a testament to a life lovingly lived.
