Brenda J. Caplis

Brenda J. Caplis, aged 70, passed away peacefully on January 28, 2026, in Holt, Michigan. Born on June 30, 1955, in Dearborn, Michigan, Brenda was a cherished individual whose warmth and kindness touched all who knew her.

She was a graduate of Wayne Memorial High School class of 1973. In 1980, Brenda married her soulmate, James (Jim) Caplis, and together they built a life rich in love and partnership. Their union was blessed with two daughters, Jes (Dave) Melton and Eryka Czopek, who went on to give Brenda the joy of being a grandmother to Maddie, Gabby, Sydney, Violet, Luke, and Elliott. Her role as a grandmother was one of her most treasured, and the memories created with her grandchildren will be held close to their hearts forever.

Brenda is also survived by her mother, Janet Dwyer, siblings, Danny McGill, Robin Osmun McGill, and Beth (Bill) Emeigh, as well as Jim's brother (Tom) and sister-in-law (Susan) and several nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews. Brenda was preceded in death by her father, John McGill, and her sister, Cindy Osmun, as well as Jim's mother and father, Gwynn and Vince Caplis.

A avid gardener, Brenda found solace and joy in the tranquility of her garden, nurturing plants with the same love and attention that she gave to her family and friends. Her artistic talents were equally evident in her watercolor paintings, which were a vivid expression of her creative spirit and her keen eye for beauty.

Brenda's love for the written word was unmatched. An avid reader, she could often be found engrossed in a book. Her affinity for Hallmark stores and shopping reflected her appreciation for the little joys in life.

She will be profoundly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her spirit will live on in the gardens she tended, the art she created, and the hearts of her beloved family and friends.

There will be no services at this time. The family has entrusted arrangements to the Mills Funeral Home, Peters & Murray Chapel, Grand Ledge.
