James McCune Obituary

Published by Legacy on Mar. 16, 2026.
James Byron McCune, a cherished soul whose warmth and presence brought joy to all who knew him, passed away peacefully on March 13, 2026, in Eaton Rapids, Michigan. He was born on September 4, 1967, in Lansing, Michigan, son of Byron and Diane (Gorshong) McCune.

He was a graduate of Grand Ledge High School's class of 1985; James' indomitable spirit shone brightly from his youth. Although he was disabled since birth, his condition never defined him nor dampened his zest for life. He communicated in his unique way, expressing joy and discontent with an honesty that was both refreshing and endearing to those around him.

James flourished in the caring environment of the IDE Adult Foster Care Center, which he considered his second home and where he was lovingly looked after by his long-time caregiver, Belinda Ide. His days at the center were filled with the simple pleasures he adored-bickering playfully with his roommate, soaking in the tranquility by the pond, relishing quiet moments, and enjoying the warmth of sitting by the fire. These activities brought him immense satisfaction, and his vocal expressions of happiness were a source of delight to his friends and caregivers.

James was the brother of Karen McCune, Gerald (Laura) McCune, Keith McCune, and Dawn McCune. The family circle extended to include several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins who took part in caring for James throughout his journey. He was preceded in death by his loving parents, as well as his grandparents and great-grandparents.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. For those wishing to donate in loving memory of James can do so to the United Cerebral Palsy of Michigan Foundation.
