Brenda Sue Chapin-Strain, 77, passed away peacefully on August 13, 2025, in Windsor, New York, with her loving family by her side. She was born to the late Charles and Marian Chapin on June 17, 1948, in Oswego, New York. She married Charles Strain, who predeceased her, on December 12, 1997, in Unadilla, NY. Brenda lived a life marked by dedication to her family, her work, and the simple joys that brought her happiness.

Family was at the heart of Brenda's world. She is lovingly remembered by her son Gene Schoeck and his wife Joann of Gloucester, Virginia, and her daughter Stephanie Mohamed of Windsor, New York, stepchildren Julie Strain of Colorado, Jessica (Charles) Wilson of Florida, and Brian Strain of Unadilla. Brenda was a proud grandmother to Jessica (Schoeck) Thomas, Justin Schoeck, Kristian Seabrook, Amina Mohamed, Kiara Mohamed, and Jillian Schoeck. Her joy multiplied with the arrival of her great-grandchild, Kilani Thomas.

She shared close bonds with her siblings: sisters Nancy Chapin and Deborah Wade; brother Mitchell Chapin and his wife Kathy; and held dear memories of those who passed before her- sister Charlie Holcomb and brother-in-law Donald Holcomb; sister JoAnna Chapin; and brother Robert Chapin. Brenda also cherished the special connection she had with Charlie Maffei-her "son from another mother"-and maintained strong ties with numerous nieces, nephews, other loving relatives, friends, and members of her work family.

Brenda built a meaningful career at SUNY Oneonta, where she retired from OAS. Even after retirement, her commitment and work ethic led her to continue part-time as a Payroll/Accounts Payable Coordinator. Her colleagues became more than coworkers-they were part of her extended "work family," who will remember her with deep affection and respect.

Known for being thoughtful, caring, and loving, Brenda brought warmth into every room she entered. She had a passion for golf and treasured time spent with family above all else. Her legendary carrot cake became a staple at family gatherings-a sweet symbol of the love she poured into everything she did.

In her final days, she received compassionate care from Hospice, for which a special thank you is extended. During this time, she formed a meaningful bond with Lauren, Shannon, and Crystal, whose support brought comfort and connection. She also cherished the thoughtful conversations she shared with Amy.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date to honor Brenda's memory. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to Guthrie Hospice Vestal at 4102 Old Vestal Rd., Vestal, NY 13850 or to The Pancreatic Cancer Action Network at PanCAN (Pancreatic Cancer Action Network).org.

Brenda's legacy lives on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. May her memory bring comfort and peace to all whose lives she touched.
