Mrs. Brenda Jean Dunkerson, 78, of Salem, passed away Thursday, January 8, 2026 at Livingston Hospital and Healthcare Services.
Brenda was born August 16, 1947, in Junction, IL, to Joseph Earl Damron and Norma Jean Dilback Phillips.
Brenda was a 1965 graduate of Woodriver High School in Woodriver, IL.
Brenda was a member of New Union General Baptist Church where in the past she taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. She was also play director with her sister Pam. She was involved in the "Ditney" Craft Ladies group as crafting and sewing was her favorite past time. Brenda retired after over 20 years with the Cabinet of Health and Family Services, with the state of Kentucky. She was a tax preparer and bookkeeper for many years after her retirement from the state.
Brenda is survived by son, Anthony "Tony" (April) Dunkerson of Salem; grandson, Austin (Lillie) Dunkerson of Salem; granddaughter, Ashleigh Dunkerson of Paducah; great granddaughter, Aurora of Salem; sister, Pam Champion; brothers, William (Bill) Damron, Gary Phillips and Kenny Phillips; step brother Stanley (Debbie) Shuecraft and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by; her husband of 54 years, Gary Dunkerson; her parents; stepfather, Earl Phillips; stepmother, Ophelia Damron; brothers, Joseph Damron and James (Jimmy) Damron; step brother, Danny Shuecraft.
Funeral services will be 2PM Sunday, January 11, 2026 in the chapel of Boyd Funeral Directors and Cremation Services.
Burial will follow at Salem Cemetery.
Friends may visit with the family Sunday, from 12 Noon until the funeral time, at Boyd Funeral Directors and Cremation Services.
