Brenda Shaw Edwards, 70, of Emporia passed away on December 30, 2025. Brenda was born in Roanoke Rapids on November 6, 1955, the eighth child of Willie Jessie and Nellie Mae Shaw.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Robert Edwards Jr. (Bobby), her brothers, Freddy Shaw, Wayne Shaw, and David Shaw. Also, by her sisters, Jean Moore, Hazel Ferguson, and Yvonne Lambert.
Brenda met the love of her life, Bobby Edwards, when they were in high school. After graduation they were married at Adams Grove Baptist Church on June 22, 1975.
Brenda worked at White’s Shoe Store for a number of years and enjoyed creating a beautiful home. She enjoyed spending time with her older siblings and spoiling her dog, Ginger.
Throughout her life Brenda was active in her church. She was a member of Women’s Missionary Union, Sunday School, sang in the choir and helped with Vacation Bible School. She became a deacon at Adams Grove Baptist Church and served faithfully.
Brenda was an avid reader and loved going to the public library to browse. She also started walking in later life. She enjoyed meeting friends at the Y and walking the track.
Her greatest treasure was the joy of being a Grammy and spending time with her two grandchildren, Lee and Jessi Mae.
Brenda is survived by her daughter Norah Haley, Son-in-Law, Wade Haley, her two grandchildren, Howard Lee and Jessi Mae Haley. She also called Jennifer Steed her adopted daughter. Also, her brother, Leon Troy Shaw (Lisa), Brothers-in-Law, Kenny Edwards (Barbara), Barry Edwards, Doug Edwards (Kim), as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Visitation will be held at Owen Funeral Home, 303 S. Halifax Rd., Jarratt, VA on Monday, January 5, 2026, from 1:00-2:00 followed by her Celebration of Life with Reverand Patricia Crump officiating. Burial will follow immediately at Adams Grove Baptist Church.
