Willie Edwards Jr. 63, of
Dayton, TX; passed away peacefully on Jan. 03, 2026.
Services will be held Friday, Jan. 16, 2026, at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church
Dayton, TX. Visitation will begin at 10AM until Funeral at 11AM. Interment will be Jan. 20, 2026, in Houston National Cemetery @ 1230PM.
Willie Jr. was born on May 12, 1962, in
San Antonio, TX. He was raised in
Dayton, Tx with his family and attended Dayton, ISD. He was A loving father, brother, grandfather, nephew, cousin, uncle, and devoted friend.
A proud veteran of the United States Army, Willie served honorably as a Chemical Operations Specialist and NBC (Nuclear, Biological, Chemical) Specialist. His dedication earned him numerous commendations, including an Expert Badge, Sharpshooter qualification, Overseas Service Ribbon, and Army Service Ribbon. His military service was a testament to his discipline, courage, and dedication. After his time in the military, Willie continued his commitment to service as a correctional officer and the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, retiring after years of steadfast and honorable work. He was highly respected and deeply loved by all his colleagues.
Willie was true to himself in every way, quiet and private yet deeply committed to loving and providing. He was loved wholly and unconditionally for being exactly who he was. He was a jokester at heart, with sharp wit and a love for laughter. He enjoyed playing cards and dominoes, and he cherished time spent with family and friends. Whether sharing a joke or simply sitting in good company, Willie found joy in life's simple pleasures.
Willie is survived by his children (Likita Gallow, Jona Sonnier, and Cory Gallow), grandchildren (Serenity, Jayde, Jordan, Jazmyne, and Kayla) siblings: Valorie Edwards, Paulette Morris (Cal), Kavin Edwards, Sr. (Angela), Alvan Edwards (Brandi). Aunts and Uncles: Paul B. Edwards (Marsha), Heron Payne (Patricia), C.J. Payne, Edwina Clark (Raymond), Margaret Edwards, and Ada Payne; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and a wide circle of friends.
Willie Jr's memory will remain in the hearts of all those who loved and knew him and his presence will be sorely missed.
