Brenda J. (Steele) Houchin, age 65, of Omaha, IL passed away on November 30, 2025, at Ferrell Hospital in Eldorado, IL. She was born March 22, 1960 in New Haven, IL to the late Ben and Dollie (McCreary) Steele.
Brenda devoted her life to her home and family. She enjoyed crocheting, painting, and creating arts and crafts. Brenda loved celebrating Halloween and Christmas, and she especially treasured every moment spent with her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Dennis Steele; niece, Mary Ann Steele; nephews, Ethan Steele and Freddy Bomar; and her brother-in-law, Fred Bomar.
She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Charlie Houchin; daughters, Christina Berry (Blake) and Catherine Austin; mother-in-law, Marie Houchin who fondly referred to her as, "Sue Sue"; grandchildren, Chris, Nate, Samantha, Riley and Bella; great-grandsons, Jay and Noah; brothers, Benny "Banjo" Steele, Jim Steele (GerriAnn), Mike Steele (Tracy) and Ronnie "Rock" Steele; sisters, Barb Bomar, Joyce Palmer, Pat Howell and Angie Wilhelm; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, December 10, 2025 at Schneider Funeral Home, 512 Main St., Mt. Vernon, IN 47620. Burial to be held at a later date.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 am until 11:00 am service time on Wednesday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Schneider Funeral Home to help defray final expenses, P.O. Box 785, Mt. Vernon, IN 47620.

Cathy and Chrissy I am so very sorry about your mom. She was a second mom to my kids for years and cared for them like her own. Sue Sue will be missed by my children and myself. Cathy your mom would be so proud of you and what your doing with your life. I love you both and if you need me you know to just pick up the phone.
