Charles Pfeiffer

Charles Pfeiffer, age 91, of Mt. Vernon, IN, passed away on March 16, 2026. He was born May 21, 1934 in Mt. Vernon to the late Henry and Matilda (Willman) Pfeiffer.

Charles was a dedicated farmer for 60 years and retired from the Wabash Memorial Toll Bridge after 37 years of service. He passed away at his homeplace, where he was born, a place that remained close to his heart throughout his life. Charles proudly served in the U.S. Army; and in 2024, participated in the 10th Anniversary Honor Flight.

He was a member of Mt. Vernon Caborn Church, the American Legion Owen Dunn Post #5, the Elks, and a lifetime member of the Eagles. In addition, Charles was also a member of the National Nut Growers Association, Civil Defense, Mount Vernon Conservation Club, Evansville Coterie Club, Keck Gonnerman, PWP, and the Caborn Bowling League.

In his younger years, Charles was an avid roller skater. He enjoyed attending auctions to build his collections, bear hunting, and spending time boating and fishing at Kentucky Lake.

Charles took up snow skiing and downhill racing at age 50. He was a member of the Evansville and Louisville Ski Clubs, which allowed him to travel to Europe, Austria, Germany, Canada, Alaska, Michigan, Utah, and many other places.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Melba Jean (Ashworth) Pfeiffer; brothers, Norman Pfeiffer, and Chester Pfeiffer; and sisters, Gilda Toothman, Amelia Cleveland, and Virginia VanScoyck.

Charles is survived by his daughters, Angela (Thomas) Pfeiffer-Guetling, and Jennifer (Randy) Juncker; grandchildren, Aaron Jean Pfeiffer, Abbylenne Grace (Rayse Harris) Guetling, Jordan Felty (Rikki Elderbrook), Jade (Bry Smith) Felty, Michael (Hilliary) Juncker; great-grandchildren, Joanna and Elsea Juncker, and Mia and Khloe Elderbrook; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 pm on Friday, March 20, 2026 at Schneider Funeral Home, 512 Main St., Mt. Vernon, IN with Pastor Al Schmitz officiating and burial to follow in Caborn Cemetery, 4101 Caborn Rd., Mt. Vernon, IN. Military Rites provided by the Owen Dunn Post #5 Honor Guard.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 am until 1:00 pm service time on Friday at the funeral home.
