Obituary published on Legacy.com by Schneider Funeral Home - Mt. Vernon on Mar. 10, 2026.
Katy Cecile (McFadin) Lang, 50, of
Mt. Vernon, IN went to be with the Lord on March 7, 2026, at IU Health Methodist Hospital with her family by her side. She was born January 28, 1976, in
Evansville, IN to Woody and Mary Theresa (Blakley) McFadin.
Katy grew up on her family farm. She was very involved in Posey County 4-H where she showed sheep and dairy calves and participated in many other projects. Katy graduated from Mt. Vernon High School in 1994, then went to Western Kentucky University. While at WKU, she started dating her future husband, Tom, and decided to move closer to home and completed her bachelor's degree at University of Southern Indiana.
Katy and Tom were married on August 1, 1998 surrounded by lots of friends and family. Together they started a family and remained very involved in church and 4-H. Katy's professional life included serving as Nursery School Director at Zion Preschool, Lang Farms bookkeeper, and Office Manager at Jacob's Village. But what she treasured the most was being a farmer's wife and a mother to her three girls. No matter where Katy worked, or what she was involved in, she always made the people around her feel incredibly special and deeply loved.
Katy had many things that she was passionate about and loved. Most importantly, she loved the Lord, her friends, and her family with all of her heart. She loved picking strawberries at Farview Orchard, and making strawberry jam and strawberry pie. Katy loved to cook, and people referred to her cooking as, "Katy's Kitchen". When her daughters asked how much of an ingredient to put in a dish, her response was, "I don't know, measure with your heart."
Katy and her family enjoyed camping and traveling. Some of her favorite places were England, Maine, Michigan, and Yellowstone National Park. As a family, the Langs enjoyed kayaking, hiking, playing board games, and spending time around the campfire.
Katy will be remembered by her caring personality, quiet muppet laughs, curly hair, beautiful brown eyes, and bright smile. She was a silent warrior who would do anything to help others. She never expected recognition, but found joy and fulfillment in knowing she had helped in some way. Katy was an inspiration to so many people in different ways - everyone has a story about how she made them feel loved, comforted, seen, or heard. She was someone people could always count on; Katy always showed up with open arms asking "how can I help". Her generous heart knew no bounds.
Throughout the last month and a half of Katy's life, many people have reached out to the family. This is a true testament of the impact Katy made on everyone's life. Her faith was evident to anyone she encountered. We know it was such a joyful celebration when she entered the Kingdom of Heaven. One of her favorite verses was 1 Corinthians 2:9 - "But, as it is written, "What no eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor the heart of man imagined, what God has prepared for those who love him."
Katy was preceded in death by her father, Woody R. McFadin, Jr.; grandparents, Woodrow Sr. and Katherine McFadin and Charles and Cecile Blakley; father-in-law, William (Bill) Lang.
Katy is survived by her loving husband of nearly 28 years, Tom; daughters, Hannah (fiancé, Jacob Hipp), Kelsey and Shelby; mother, Mary Theresa McFadin; sister, Carrie Staib (Matt); brother, Matthew McFadin (Andrea); mother-in-law, Ruth Ann Lang; brother-in-law, John Lang (Rose); nieces and nephews, Blake, Addaleigh, Eli, and Emily McFadin, Haylee, Olivia, and Owen Staib, Kendal Keith (Justin) and Kyle Lang (Hadlee); and many cherished aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Visitation will be held from 2:00pm to 7:00pm on Friday, March 13th at Schneider Funeral Home (512 Main Street,
Mt. Vernon, IN 47620) and from 11:00am until 1:00pm on Saturday at Zion Lippe church.
Funeral service will be held at 1:00pm on Saturday, March 14th at Zion Lippe UCC (9000 Copperline Road,
Mt. Vernon, IN 47620) with Pastor Jeff Long officiating and a private burial service to follow.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the doctors, nurses, and staff of IU Methodist Hospital for the care and support they provided during Katy's stay. They are also thankful to Fair Haven for providing a place of comfort and support during this difficult time.
Katy cared deeply for the residents and staff at Jacob's Village.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Jacob's Village or St. John's Cemetery at Bufkin, where her physical body will rest.
