Brenda Kay Johnson, 73, of North Vernon, passed away at 4:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, at her residence.

Born May 25, 1952, in Butlerville, she was the daughter of the late Paul Hardin Lucas and Betty Lou (Combest) Lucas. She married Ralph Johnson on October 5, 1968, in Jennings County; he survives.

Brenda was a caregiver at the former Muscatatuck State Developmental Center in Butlerville, and for DSi, she also worked as a housekeeper for NAC/GECOM and Armstrong Janitorial Service. Brenda was also a waitress for several restaurants. She enjoyed going to the casinos, playing bingo, dancing, and being a social butterfly. Brenda loved being with her family and spending time with her grandchildren.

Surviving with her husband of 57 years, Ralph; are her sons, Ralph Edward (Rebecca Norene) Johnson Jr. of Osgood and David Michael Johnson of North Vernon; her daughters, Samantha Kay (Jeff) Armstrong and Betty Christine Johnson, both of North Vernon; brothers, Paul Michael Lucas and Richard Earl Lucas, both of North Vernon; sister Loretta Jean (Bart) Caldwell of North Vernon; grandchildren, Ashley Armstrong, Ryan Runge, Brett Motley, Emmy Lou Fitzgibbon, Isabelle Johnson and David "Tater" Johnson, all of North Vernon, and Ralph Johnson III of Osgood; great-grandchild, Ralph Johnson IV of Osgood; her nephew who she raised, Paul Temple of North Vernon and several more nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; infant brother, Paul Lucas; sister Shirley Mae Temple; brother-in-law, Sam Temple; and sister-in-law, Margaret Lucas.

A funeral service for Brenda will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 14, 2026, at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North Vernon with the Rev. Dale Boyd officiating. The visitation for family and friends will be on Saturday, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be in the Vernon Cemetery.

Memorials may be made in honor of Brenda through the funeral home for expenses.
