Mrs. Brenda McNair, age 70, of Wilson, North Carolina transitioned on June 24, 2025 surrounded by her loving family.
Brenda McNair, also known as "Sally Jane" was born on June 15, 1955, in Elm City, North Carolina, to the late Mrs. Minnie "Sue" Atkinson-Thomas and Mr. George Thomas, Sr.,. God in His infinite wisdom called Brenda to her eternal home on June 24, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.
Brenda, the fourth of 13 children, grew up in both Nash and Wilson Counties with her mother, father, and stepfather, Floyd Barnes Jr. She was employed at R.H. Donnelly for over 30 years.
Brenda met and married the love of her life, Cleavon McNair Sr., in 1975. As life progressed, they lived and shared their lives in Wilson, North Carolina. God blessed their union of 50 years with two beautiful children and 15 grandchildren.
Brenda came to understand her need for Christ early in life. Sept. 2, 2008, she renewed her commitment to the Lord and found a spiritual home at Salvation and Praise Full Gospel Church Ministry under the spiritual guidance of Apostle Ed Thomas Edwards. Brenda, along with her sister Anita Thomas and nephew Demetrist Thomas, attended church service faithfully until her health declined.
Preceding Brenda in death: her mother, Minnie "Sue" Atkinson-Thomas; her father George Thomas Sr., her stepfather Floyd Barnes; her brothers Vernon Atkinson Sr., George Thomas Jr., Dwight Thomas, Terry Barnes, and David Barnes; her sisters Alicia Inman and Angela "Vern" Barnes-Vick; her grandson Donovan Speight.
Brenda leaves to cherish her memories; her husband Cleavon McNair Sr., of the home; her daughter Almonica Speight (Donald) and son Cleavon McNair all of Wilson, NC; 14 grandchildren, Tevon McNair (Jileena) of Wilson, NC, Senior Airman Dayon McNair of San Antonio, TX, Justin Speight, Joshua Speight, Khadajah Evans, Charnell Reese, Nakahyla Speight, Brekhia Speight, Mazion McNair, Jamaize Miller, Lavender Miller, Keejah Ford, Drauna Willis, and Ayanna Barnes all of Wilson, NC; three sisters, Linda Horne (Jean) of Elm City, NC, Anita Thomas of Sumter, SC, and Charlene Silver (Leroy Sr.,) of
Rocky Mount, NC; two brothers; Harvey Summerlin Sr., of Elm City, NC and Tony Thomas (Gloria) of Middlesex, NC; two brothers-in-love; Otis McClain (Susan) and Joseph "Jojo" McClain all of
Rocky Mount, NC; one sister-in- love; Lois McClain of
Rocky Mount, NC; three uncles Bishop George Atkinson Sr., (Rosie), Chris Williams (Aundrea), and Bernard Williams all of Wilson, NC; two aunts Fannie Powell of Wilson, NC and Annie Dories Jones of Philadelphia, PA; and a host of beloved nieces, nephews, and friends, including special friends and sisters Denise Harris, Carolyn Gaston, and Gloria Battle all of Wilson, NC.
A Visitation will be held for Mrs. McNair on Sunday, June 29, 2025 from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm at Light of Peace Missionary Baptist Church, 510 S. Glendale Avenue,
Rocky Mount, North Carolina. Funeral services will follow the visitation beginning at 1:00 pm. Interment will be private.
