Brenda Lee Smouse Penwell Rooks Mitchell
It is with deep love and gratitude that we remember the life of Brenda Lee Mitchell, born November 23, 1968, in London, Ohio. She passed away on September 7, 2025, at the age of 56. She was a woman whose joy, laughter, and selfless heart left a lasting mark on everyone who knew her.
Brenda loved nothing more than being with her family. Whether it was gathering around the kitchen table with a hot cup of coffee, enjoying a day at the amusement park, or splashing around in the pool, she found joy in the simple moments and shared that joy freely with those around her. Her presence was a steady reminder that life is meant to be lived fully—with laughter, love, and a willingness to serve others.
She had a gift for making ordinary days feel special. Her laughter could fill a room, her kindness uplifted the weary, and her devotion to those she loved was unwavering. She cherished the bonds of family and friendship above all else.
Brenda will be remembered not only for her love of fun and adventure but also for her generous spirit. She had a servant’s heart, always eager to lend a hand, offer encouragement, or simply sit with someone who needed company.
She is survived by her children Kyndra Mitchell (Darrell Garrett), Kynneth Mitchell, Brendan Rooks, Breanna Rooks, Elijah Mitchell, and Melanie Mitchell; 2 grandchildren Jaden Wallace and Zay’Veon Cook; her siblings, Cheryl Artis, Kimberly Martinez, John (Hope) Herron, Trisha Smouse, Tiffiny (Ryan) Dillinger, and Andy (Savannah) Penwell; Father Albert Penwell; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband Curtiss Mitchell, father Richard Smouse, mother Vivian Smouse Herron, mother Patricia Penwell, sister Linda Louise Cain, and brother Howard Christian Smouse III.
Her legacy lives on in the love she poured into her family and the joy she spread wherever she went.
A celebration of Brenda’s life will be held on Friday, September 19, 2025, at 11AM at Fountain of Truth Ministries, 135 Maple St., London, OH 43140, with Captain Trisha Smouse, officiating. Friends and loved ones are invited to join in honoring her memory and sharing stories of the many ways she blessed their lives.
Her time with us was a precious gift, and while she will be deeply missed, the love and laughter she gave so freely will continue to shine in the hearts of all who knew her.
