She attended Marietta schools and graduated from Marietta High School with the Class of 1963. She was united in marriage to Joe Raff Orr on June 9, 1962, at the Lebanon Baptist Church. Following Joe’s military service, the couple made their home in Madill, where they raised their three sons. Brenda devoted herself to her family as a housewife and stay-at-home mom. She was a homemaker, truly embodying the role in every sense of the word. She loved to cook and was well known for her casseroles and desserts. She won several blue ribbons for her chili and enjoyed collecting recipes. Brenda was an avid seamstress, making clothing for herself and her family. She was highly creative and enjoyed many forms of arts and crafts, including sewing, quilting, knitting, latch hooking, looming, embroidery, and painting. She loved plants, gardening, and canning, and especially enjoyed county fairs, entering her creations in as many categories as possible. She enjoyed fishing, water and snow skiing, games, and leisure traveling with Joe.
She was actively involved and supportive of her children’s and grandchildren’s endeavors, whether related to school, extracurricular activities, sports, or church. Brenda faithfully served her church teaching Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, and other women’s ministries, and she was a member of First Baptist Church of Madill, Calvary Baptist Church of Tishomingo, and First Baptist Church of Frederick.
After her three sons graduated from college, she began college and earned an Associate’s Degree from Murray State College in Tishomingo, followed by a Bachelor’s Degree in Pre-School/Elementary Education from East Central University in Ada. She worked at the Fran Drummond Day Care Center in Madill and later taught for several years in the Dickson Public Schools.
Joe and Brenda moved to Tishomingo in 1991, and in 2012, they relocated to Frederick. She assisted at the funeral home and enjoyed participating in the Sewing Club, Country Club Ladies, and Bridge Club.
