Brenda Sue McMurray Sweat, age 73, of Middlesboro, KY, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her baby girls on Tuesday, January 21, 2025.  She was born April 29, 1951, in Harlan, Kentucky, the daughter of the late Elbert McMurray and Hester Hensley McMurray Young. 

Brenda was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and caregiver to all. She loved serving God and singing at her church. She loved her church family. She loved her special sons and brothers in Christ, Reverend Rick Braden and Tyler Pierce, as well as her sisters in Christ, Linda Short and Pauline Givens. 

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her loving husband, Raymond Sweat; brothers, James McMurray and Eddie McMurray; daughters, Wilma Jean Sweat, Tammy Ray Angela Sweat; grandchildren, Ronald Lee Minton and Daniel Christopher Minton; and her son-in-law, James Ronald Minton.

She is survived by her daughters, Melissa Minton, Suzan (Daniel) Minton, Michelle (Wendell) Minton, Cassandra (Matt) Partin and Desiree Sweat; sisters, Dorothy Cavins and Nancy McMurray; grandchildren, Jay Ray Minton, Marcia (Travis) Cody, Mark (Kayla) Minton, Danielle (Christian) Carter, Christopher (Jordyn) Minton, Siara Minton and Kelsey (Jeremy) Bortz; great-grandchildren, Josh Cody, Emily Griffith, Kaylee Griffith, Jayleigh Minton, Maddyn Patterson, Landyn Carter, Jensen Carter, Madison Minton, Finnleigh Carter, Alaina (“LaLa”) Michelle Minton and Nevaeh Couch; and a host of other relatives and friends. 

Brenda's life was marked by her kindness and dedication to her family and friends. Her passion for life and strong spirit left a lasting impression on everyone she encountered. She was a cherished member of her community and will be deeply missed by those who knew her.

The family of Brenda Sue Sweat will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 25, 2025, at the Cawood Funeral Home Chapel, Middlesboro, KY

Funeral services for Brenda Sue Sweat will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, January 26, 2025, at the Cawood Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Rick Braden, Reverend Daniel Ellison and Reverend Tyler Pierce officiating. 

A graveside service will be held at Oakview Cemetery, Middlesboro, KY; immediately following the funeral service. Music will be provided by the Church of the First Born singers and the Shipley Grove Church singers. Pallbearers will be Christopher Minton, Mark Minton, Matthew Partin, Dillan Lamb, Travis Cody and Josh Cody. Honorary pallbearers will be Jay Ray Minton, Daniel Partin and T.J. Dilbeck.
