Brenda Kay Vaught, 74, of New London and formerly of Sullivan, passed away under hospice care on Friday, October 24, 2025. On November 7, 1950, Brenda was born in Roncevert, West Virginia to the late Harmon Bane and Ilene (nee Wykle) Wood. Brenda graduated from Midview High School.
A trainer in Histology, Brenda worked at Wil Research Center in Ashland. As a child, Brenda had Chihuahuas and grew to love the breed and raised them for many years. Brenda also worked as a public notary.
Brenda faithfully attended the Sullivan Congregational Church, where she was a soloist, sang in the choir, participated in the Women's Fellowship, and volunteered with the food pantry and the youth group. At church, Brenda also served as a Deaconess and the treasurer. Recently she had been volunteering with the New London Prayer Room.
She enjoyed art and especially liked painting landscapes and animals. Brenda loved tending her flower garden and was proud of her daisies and irises.
Brenda is survived by her sons, Joseph James Vaught, Sr. and Eric Scott Vaught; grandchildren, Ashley Risner, Joseph Vaught, Jr., Daniel Bakston and Haley, Erika, and Kya Vaught; 6 great grandchildren; and sister, Peggy Wood, of Homerville. She was preceded in death by her husband, James, and brothers, William and Curtis Wood; and a grand daughter, Traniece Vaught.
Visitation will be held on Friday, October 31 from 11:30 until the funeral service at 12:30 at Sullivan Congregational Church, 503 US Highway 224, Sullivan, OH 44880. Burial will follow at Sullivan Southview Cemetery. Arrangements were entrusted to Norton-Eastman Funeral Home, Wellington, and condolences can be shared at www.norton-eastmanfuneralhome.com.
