Brenda Merritt Wallace, 81, of Monroe, NC passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 29, 2024. She was born on December 31, 1942 in Monroe, North Carolina to the late Floyd Bruce Merritt and Mary Lee McManus Merritt. She was predeceased by her husband, Harley Henry Wallace; brother, Larry Dale Merritt and grandson, Harley Glenn Wallace.
Brenda was the cherished daughter of the heart of Cora Jane Merritt. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, leaving behind a legacy of kindness and dedication. Her family was the center of her universe, and she poured her heart into their lives. She is survived by her devoted son, Rodney Dwayne Wallace of Monroe, NC, and her loving daughters, Teresa Lynn Greene (David) of Virginia, Elizabeth Annette Swayngim (Kevin) of Monroe, NC and Kimberly Diane Thomas (James)of Monroe, NC. Her sisters, Jannie Merritt, Corkey, Shelby, Carol, Linda and Denise will fondly remember Brenda's unwavering support and love. Brenda's memory will also be treasured by her fourteen grandchildren, thirty-seven great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren each of whom she adored with every fiber of her being.
Brenda's interests painted the picture of a woman who embraced life's simple pleasures with enthusiasm. She found joy in walking, an activity that reflected her journey through life-steady, purposeful, and always moving forward. Traveling was another passion, as she sought to experience the beauty of the world with an open heart. Her love for her children and grandchildren knew no bounds, and she often said they were her greatest adventures and treasures.
The mountains held a special place in Brenda's heart, and she relished the times she could escape to their tranquility. Camping under the stars, she felt a profound connection to the natural world and to her Lord, to whom she was deeply dedicated. Her faith was a cornerstone of her existence, guiding her actions and providing comfort throughout her life.
Brenda was truly one of a kind-the best mom and grandma anyone could ask for. Her heart of gold shone brightly through her every action, and she was always there for anyone in need. Her presence was a gift to all who knew her, and her absence will be deeply felt.
The family will have a Celebration of Life Memorial Service on Sunday, November 3, 2024 at 2:00 PM at New Faith Baptist Church, 1222 Walkup Ave., Monroe, NC 28110.
