Bret Richard Emrick, born on September 7, 1959, in Dayton, Ohio, passed away peacefully on May 1, 2025, at University of Cincinnati Hospital, surrounded by loving family. Bret, a dedicated and hardworking individual, made his mark as a meat cutter at Kroger, where he worked for many years before retiring. His career began at Lofino's, showcasing his commitment to the profession and the community.

An alumnus of Carroll High School, where he graduated in 1977, Bret displayed an eagerness to learn throughout his life, having attended The Ohio State University. His passion for knowledge extended well beyond academics; he was a history buff, and he found joy in reading and exploring old TV shows and movies. A true Buckeye, Bret was proud of his allegiance to The Ohio State University football team, always cheering, “Go Bucks!” with enthusiasm, as well as savoring the sounds of "The Best Damn Band in the Land."

Bret’s personality was characterized by his humor and loving demeanor. He cherished quiet moments at home and had a deep affection for animals, which was reflected in his charitable contributions, particularly to the Humane Society of Greater Dayton. He took pride in his many donations to various charities, helping those in need and embodying a spirit of generosity that endeared him to many.

Bret is remembered fondly by his liver journey "care team", including his sister Katherine Emrick, as well as his cousins Mindy Burger, Julie Garcia and Ann Timpone. He is also survived by many cousins and friends who were fortunate to know him. He is preceded in death by his parents, Bert Jr. and Nancy Emrick, along with his brothers, Bert Emrick III and Michael Emrick, as well as his beloved fur babies, Fritzie, Hans, Kacey, Quincey, and Toby Jo.

The legacy of Bret Richard Emrick will live on in the hearts of those who knew him, as they cherish the laughter and love he shared throughout his life. He will be profoundly missed but fondly remembered for his caring nature and his love for family.

Bret will be laid to rest with his family at David's Cemetery in a private family gathering.  Please consider making a donation in Bret's memory to the Humane Society of Greater Dayton.
