Brett Hammernick

Brett Hammernick, 29, passed away on June 28, 2025, in West Des Moines, Iowa.

Born on December 3, 1995, Brett attended Hiatt Junior High in Des Moines, Iowa, and later attended Cotton High in Sedalia, Missouri. Throughout his life, he explored a wide range of professions, gaining experience in roofing, hvac, warehouse, cooking, customer service, and as a phlebotomist.

Brett is survived by his mother, Valerie Jensen; his sister, Alicia Hammernick; stepsisters Desiree, Savannah, and Samantha; and stepbrother Christian. He was a devoted father to Aiden and a cherished grandson to Carolyn Jensen. He also leaves behind ten nieces and nephews and many others whom he considered brothers and sisters.

He was preceded in death by his recently passed father and grandparents-Grandmother and Grandfather Hammernick, Marvin Hammernick Jr., Grandfather Jensen-and several uncles and nephews.

Brett had a passion for video games and enjoyed driving for DoorDash. Some of his most treasured moments were spent fishing with his father and sister. Known for his kind heart and protective spirit, Brett was deeply compassionate-always standing up for those in need. His infectious smile and quick wit brought comfort to those around him. Handsome and resilient, Brett had made great strides in overcoming personal challenges and was working hard to build a brighter future.

A viewing will be held at Brooks Funeral Home, 2135 SW 9th Street, Des Moines on Sunday, July 6, from 3 to 6 p.m. A Celebration of Life will follow on Saturday, July 12, from 3 to 4:30 p.m. at the Community of Christ Church on Ashworth Road in West Des Moines.

Too young to go, Brett's memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
