Brett North, age 53, passed away just before midnight on January 25, 2026. Brett was born on August 13, 1972 with a rare genetic disorder which presented him with severe intellectual and developmental disabilities. Through the dedicated, consistent and loving care of his parents, family, regional center, day program and caregivers, Brett has lived a remarkable life.
Brett began his education at age 4 at George Miller Center in Concord. At age 6 he attended Wren Avenue Elementary, followed by Pinehaven at Shadelands and then completed his public school at Liberty High School. After high school, Brett returned to George Miller Center and had been a nearly lifelong client until December 2025, when he became ill. He loved the staff there where he developed important and meaningful decades long relationships.
His long-time home caregivers have been the backbone of his care, and our family is eternally grateful to Jenni Henderson, Sybil Lujan, Yvette Wright and more recently Vanessa Aguilar--all employees of Compass Cares. Each of these women have shown Brett love, respect and dedicated themselves to his wellbeing.
Like his father, Jerry North, Brett held a fascination and love of cars. He had hundreds and always had at least one in hand nearly at all times. He, of course, had his favorites, but knew the make and model of each.
Brett was kind, affectionate and very funny. He was known for his ability to joke and at times he had incredibly on point one-liners. He greeted everyone he met with a "lemme shake your hand" or "gimme a hug" that might have also included a little back rub. His smile and laugh will be missed.
Brett was preceded in death by his father, Jerald Dean North. He leaves his loving mother, Norma North, brother, Lee (Susan) North, sister, Vonda North, niece, Emma (Isaac) Hite as well as his dedicated caregivers.
Brett was a lifelong active member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church, where he made his confirmation on April 23rd, 1995. The family wishes to invite you to a Celebration of Life service that will be held on Saturday, February 28th, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at the church located at 4000 Concord Blvd., Concord CA 94519. A light luncheon will be served immediately following where those who wish can share their stories and remembrances of Brett.
