Brian Bunce Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by VanInwegen-Kenny Inc Funeral Home - Monticello on Feb. 17, 2026.
Brian William Bunce of Monticello, New York, passed away on February 14, 2026, at the age of 67.

Born on November 8, 1958, Brian grew up the oldest son of a United States Air Force father, alongside his mother and four siblings. His childhood was marked by constant movement, traveling both abroad and across the country before the family ultimately settled in Monticello, New York. This early life of change helped shape the independent, resilient, and at times stubborn man so many came to know and love.

Brian was a dedicated sportsman and a Master Falconer. Through his sobriety and unwavering commitment to the art and discipline of falconry, he found not only purpose but legacy. He trained 41 apprentices over the years and highlighted his birds at community and school events leaving a lasting imprint on the New York State Falconry Association and on the generations of falconers who learned under his guidance. His passion for the outdoors, birds of prey, and the traditions of the sport defined much of his life.

Though his path was not always easy and at times bumpy, Brian found love with Susan Bunce, with whom he had two children. While their marriage did not last, his love for her and for their children never faded. If Brian loved you, he really loved you. He could be strong-willed and stubborn, but beneath that tough exterior was fierce loyalty, deep feeling, and a heart that beat hardest for his family and friends.

He is survived by his son, Daniel Bunce and his wife Stephanie and granddaughter Kasi, his daughter, Christine Miraglia and two grandsons, Louis III and Geno, who brought light and pride to his later years. He is also survived by his siblings, nieces, nephews, cousins, and a wide circle of friends he often said he was blessed to have. Brian frequently reflected that he had "great friends" in his life - and he cherished them. He will be deeply missed by his family, his apprentices, his friends, and all whose lives he touched.

A life lived fiercely. A love given deeply. A legacy that will fly on.

Visitation for Brian will be held on Saturday, February 21, 2026 from 10:00am to 1:00pm at the VanInwegen-Kenny Funeral Home, 401 Broadway in Monticello, NY with a prayer service starting at 1:00pm. Burial will follow at the Evergreen Cemetery in Bethel, NY.
