Everyone's' Relative Brian!
Titles Brian held while traveling through life: Son, Brother, Grandson, Uncle, Friend, and Kyase – Relative!
Our relative Brian carried titles of responsibility, reciprocity, and relationship within the community and for the Oneida Nation: Teacher, Councilman, Businessman, Gardener, Community Servant – sharing Thanksgiving meals in the community, Advocate, and Listener.
Our relative Brian carried a good mind and a good word each day and reminded us through story how important it is that we listen to the family stories of our elders and celebrate those teachings every day and always to share how important it is to keep learning our Oneida language and identity.
Most important, our relative Brian lived and shared encouragement, compassion, and spirit. He was a Storyteller, and we know through all the stories shared that the relatives will always celebrate the teachings; A Good Mind, Good Heart and A Strong Fire, keeping the memory of the storyteller forever bright! Spoken by Artley Skenandore
Brian carries the spirit of his grandmothers and elders in his heart and that spirit drives him to gift the community with his relentless energy to be civic and charity minded. He went to live with his Grandmother Margaret and so she welcomed him and passed on her wisdom and traditions to him. She would share her stories and her passion for helping and community development in the most traditional sense.
He should be well remembered for his ability to put his prayers into song. While holding his hand drum he could belt out a prayer that would truly bring blessings to those around him.
He's a modest baker and his bread and corn soup are always a sellout success.
He has the most voracious laugh ever, he's a gardener and raises his own corn beans and squash and always leaves some on his picnic table for whoever is in need or want.
His education and employment history: Brian has worked in the Oneida Library, as a teacher and began his own tax business which has been a success, through his tax preparations he has been able to assist in returning millions of dollars to our economy.
Dancing is another accolade we can attribute to Brian as a well renown "Oneida" Jigger and also traditional dancer at Pow Wows.
Much more can be said of Brian, but most importantly it's the spirit and drive for community that he is best known for. The core values of the Oneida people which are to embrace a good mind, encourage the best in one another, have compassion for one another and find joy in who you are, these are the values reflected by the life and times of Brian Doxtator. - feeling peaceful. Spoken by Bobby Webster.
