Brian Jones Obituary

Brian Timothy Jones, BJ to those who knew him, and just about everyone knew him, passed away Tuesday afternoon at St. Vincent's Medical Center. He was 57 years old. Born in Willoughby, Ohio, to Jesse and Betty Jones, Brian was a high school athlete at South High School and excelled on and off the field. BJ was a record-setting soccer player for the Rebels and he'd usually be found on a field or a court somewhere. Brian graduated from Willoughby South High School in 1986 and went on to the University of Toledo, where he earned a degree in Business Finance and found his second family, the Birminghams, on the softball field. He built a career in public service, first with the Lucas County Auditor's Office, then the Wood County Auditor's Office, before retiring in 2025. BJ, never the type to sit still, joined Vision Government Solutions and loved the opportunity he found there starting last June. He was a proud public servant and a man who was as valuable at work as he was at home or anywhere else he ventured. Brian married Jeanna Sendelbach, the love of his life, on May 30, 2003, at Holland Gardens. Together, they built his third family and a life that revolved around the people they loved. He was a proud father to Tyler, Ben, and Lindsey. He became a proud father-in-law to Amanda Bartley Stoldt and grandfather to Colt and Paisley Stoldt. Before his kids were old enough for school sports, BJ was already coaching them. Every sport, from soccer to baseball and softball to golf or whatever else they wanted to learn. And not just his own kids, everybody's kids. He coached countless teams for all three of his children and made an impression on many others as well. He loved to teach, loved to play, loved to be out there showing some eight-year-old how to follow through on a swing or to track down a fly ball. That was his volunteer work. That was his community. A gym, a field, a driveway. Wherever the game was, BJ was there. When he wasn't coaching, he was working around the house. Brian spent years learning countless handyman skills from his father-in-law, Dick, which led him and Jeanna to create their real estate business, Tybensey, in honor of their children. If he wasn't working on the house or on sports, he'd be found planted in front of the TV watching the Browns, the Buckeyes or the Cavs. On the best days, he'd get to watch all three. But given the choice, he'd pick time with his family over anything else. Every time. Those other things weren't distractions for BJ. Rather, they were chances to grow his connection to his wife and their children and BJ never missed that opportunity. Brian Jones was a serious man with an unserious sense of humor, a big laugh, an infectious smile, and a generosity that made friends out of strangers. He made brothers and sisters out of friends and opened his home every year to throw the area's best Fourth of July party at the Jones Estate Pitch & Putt Golf Course & Campground (his backyard), a tradition that now involves an annual Firework Competition with his neighbors. He was loved by everyone who met him. If BJ loved you, he loved you forever. He was a simple man who loved a cold beer on a hot Sunday afternoon after a weekend of yard work while he listened to the Casey Kasem Throwback Countdown. Brian was preceded in death by his parents Jesse and Betty Jones; his father-in-law Richard Sendelbach; John and Patricia Birmingham; his sister-in-law Vanessa Jones and his best friends, Bobby Birmingham and Steve Wagner. The three of them were inseparable for years, the kind of friendship that doesn't need a label because everyone already knew. If one of them was near, the other two were close behind. In life and now in death. He is survived by his wife Jeanna; his children Tyler (Amanda), Ben, and Lindsey; his grandchildren Colt and Paisley; his siblings Patty (Jones) Williams, Janet (Jones) Allison and her husband Blaine, Mark Jones, and Doug Jones and his wife Kim; and the extended Sendelbach and Birmingham families who loved him like their own. Because he was.
