Brian Jordan

Brian Jordan (44) passed away unexpectedly at home in the presence of his loving wife due to complications from myotonic muscular dystrophy on March 17, 2024. He was born in Boston, MA on November 7, 1979 (and remained a life-long Red Sox fan) to Bret and Ann Jordan (née Cochran) before they returned to Maryland 2 years later. He grew up manning the cannons in civil war reenactments with his family which sparked an interest in military history that he would carry with him throughout his life. He also enjoyed dancing with his family at the Culkin School of Irish Dance. He was so proud of his Irish heritage and even studied abroad in Limerick in 2000.
Brian graduated from Gaithersburg High School where he was a percussionist in the Marching Band and wore his varsity jacket with pride. During that time he made cherished friends who will never forget his spectacular Backstreet Boys and Britney Spears lip sync performances. Brian began his undergraduate studies at Frostburg State University before transferring to Utah Valley University to join his wife and graduate summa cum laude in History. He met his wife Lauri (Leafty) by a chance encounter when she was visiting relatives. They fell hard and fast in love and were married within 4 months. They began their marriage in Idaho and Utah before returning to Maryland in 2008. They would be married 20 years this December and their love was quietly epic. They overcame so much together and through it all Brian was an adoring husband known for planning elaborate themed dates. Immediately after closing on their dream home in Fort Washington, MD in 2011, Brian adopted an incorrigible lab-mix named Kerry who was ever-present by his side. After a decade of prayer and effort they were blessed with their daughter Felicity in 2020. Brian was a doting father and shared such a unique bond with her. She could do no wrong in his eyes and loved being read to while cuddled up in his lap.
Brian excelled professionally and was proud to support his family as a grant-writer for various companies. After following his passion by obtaining a master's degree in military history from George Mason University, he applied his skills by managing and authoring proposals including a 10-year contract that doubled the size of his company.
Brian was a man of deep faith and a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints where he had served as both a Sunday School teacher and Executive Secretary. Parishioners still remember his impactful talks that may have lead to props officially being banned. Brian inherited the Cochran sense of humor and his subtle wit was always on point. He was also a remarkably selfless person who gave to everyone around him constantly and unconditionally.
Family was everything to Brian. He will be so terribly missed by those who survive him including his wife Lauri and daughter Felicity (3); parents Bret and Ann Jordan; his sister and her husband Sarah and Colin Jordan-Crowe and their children Gabriel and Mariela; grandparents Leetha and Frank Jordan; uncle James Cochran and aunt Roxanne Jordan. He will be welcomed in heaven by loved ones who predeceased him including his brother Patrick; grandparents George and Alice Cochran; uncles John and Michael Cochran, and aunt Mary Hovey.
Brian often outright ignored the increasing physical limitations imposed by his myotonic dystrophy. He barely considered it while working to build this beautiful life. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Myotonic Dystrophy Foundation at www.myotonic.org where they are actively working on a cure for this disease that took him from us too soon.
A visitation will be held on Monday, March 25, 2024 from 9:30 a.m. until the start of the funeral service at 10:30 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 5300 Auth Road, Camp Springs, MD 20746-4323. Interment at 2 p.m. at All Souls Cemetery, 11401 Brink Rd., Gaithersburg, MD 20876.
